Why sign a cue with a crappy marker.

I was going to post this in the for sale section under the cue i saw it on, thought it might be better here. I didt want to single out any one in particular.

I saw a cue for sale and the signature was done in a sharpie that looked like some one drew on gravel with the tip.

I have to ask. A cue maker makes a beautiful cue and used a marker from his kids toy box. These guys have the talent to produce such pieces of art then downgrade it with such a crappy signature. I in no way have the best handwritting , but if i were gonna represent my masterpiece with a signature, it would be neat and with a nice pen. I would have a die or stamp made so it was the same every time. Not picking on any one at all, i have viewed many nice cues and the see the signature and it totaly ruins the great cuemanship.

PAul Mottey may have the best cue signature out there and i just saw he went to a stamped PM on his cue. That is a downgrade to me. Oh well.

I noticed the change aswell...I sign mine with my initials with a gold gel ink pen.

Ginacues have the best signature on them of all cues, Ernie does them perfect everytime., Eric Crisp has a cool signature as well. Little Al Romero had a brand and would burn his name in the cues he did-I liked that touch.

The cue you are referring to is one of the most beautiful cues I've seen.

The bold color combination used in the points works and works well. Since it appears that he was using a permanent maker, there may have been nothing that could be done after the smear other than sanding. I agree that it detracts from an otherwise perfect work or art.

Of course, they look much different blown up 10-20 times in size on the big screen, too.

I agree 110% and I know exactly which cue you're talking about. Nothing can screw up the look of a nice cue than a crappy signature. Mottey has a good one as does James White. Richard Black's is good too. Gina uses either a stamp or some kind of decal under the finish. He may have a gorgeous signature but he's not hitting it exactly the same every single time. He's got something that he puts on there. Also, Mottey hasn't stopped signing his cues, the PM on the butt cap, or sometimes even MOTTEY, is something he does here and there or if a customer requests it. The Mottey I have for sale right now is a perfect example. Since the forearm is ebony I didn't want him to sign it using a white marker so I asked him to put the PM on the butt cap.

Back to Gina, I think that decal he uses looks really nice but since they are all exactly the same I would kind of prefer if he signed it himself so it wasn't so standard. Kind of reminds me of the "Helmstetter" logo on Adam cues.

You need to check out Pete Tascarella's signature. He does a superb job signing his cues if it's his real signature. It almost looks like a decal it's so good.

James White has a very nice handwriting when he signs his cues between the points.

I couldn't agree more about ruining a beautiful cue with a crappy signature and i've seen some that made me cringe. How could some cue makers ruin a great cue with a bad signature.

Go To Wal Mart

I am a celebrity endorsing Minnesota Fats Custom Cues. Go down to your local Wal Mart or Sports Authority, and get you a silky smooth Minnesota! The signatures on them are great, and look like the real thing. ...

He does sign them all by hand... who told you he uses a decal?

DUDE....Ernie's is NOT a decal, I suspect he would prefer suicide over a decal on one of his cues...he just does a beautiful job on the sig, just like on the rest of the cue.

I have seen the handle (under the wrap) of many of his "pre-signature" cues and they too have the same signature, only larger, under the wrap and invisible without removing the wrap....and it still looks perfect...:)

I dont know what cue everyone is referring too (I'm on vacation, why read everything?):D but I like a true sig rather than a stamp. Even if the sig looks rough I think it truly shows the custom look. If its stamped it makes it look like a production cue. JMHO.

Yes that cue is gorgeous but the signature could have been done better by my 6 year old son, lol, its still a hell of a cue for the money and from afar the sig doesnt look bad in the one pic.

I am not going to say who, but there is a new cue maker who signs all their cues with a finger print in a small white box on the butt cap. Signatures can be forged but not finger prints, and looks kinda weird but it is certainly different!!!!!!!!

Well, if he signs them all by hand he does a helluva job. I've seen numerous Gina cues with that signature and they are all exactly the same. I mean c'mon, even with your own signature there's a little variation from one to the next. But, you've seen him do it first hand so I can't argue with that one.

i think searing's signature is among the best. mostly cuz its so small and precise with no marker runoff. another one i really like is rauenzahn's.

These 2 are nice and Tascarellas is great too.

I can't blame you for thinking that Mully... its very hard to see any difference in his signatures especially if you don't have a couple side by side to look at. Just to clear up misconceptions, here are 5 examples of Ernie's signature... if compare them closely you will see the little variations in each one. Hope this helps :)
