Ok here's a question.

Who would you say has (or had) the best stroke in the game? Just so you know, i define the best stroke as being able make the cue ball appear to defy the laws of physics.

I had a couple in mind. But if it has to come down to one,I would go with Larry Nevel. He does things that don't seem possible!

Ditto..................

When I think of "Monster Strokes" I think of Earl and Mike Massey. Massey's stroke might not look like he's doing much (when compared to the huge stroke of someone like Earl) but he can juice it up with the best of them.

I'm glad to hear you say that. I was in columbus, OH back in 1999 at Cornfed Red's late one nite after a big tourny. EVERONE was there (Efren, Buddy, Grady, Alex P, Corey D, Tang Hoa)

There was a guy there that looks alot like Larry Nevel that was doing some shots that defied explaination. I was pretty sure it was him, but i think you just confirmed it.

Larry Nevel puts an object ball hanging in the left corner pocket. Puts the cue ball up table in the right corner pocket. Shoots in the object ball and draws the cue ball back into the pocket he just shot from...He also shoots that shot with the cue ball on the head string spot, makes the object ball and draws the cue ball back to the back rail and back down to the opposite rail...Buddy Hall can do this also. Two of the best strokes I have ever seen...

Here is one for you;Larry jumps the 8-ball and pockets the 1.The 8 and Cb are frozen together.See picture below. If you don't believe me,go to you tube and do a search on Larry Nevel.

I would have to go with Corey on this one. He also does things with the cue ball that defy logic.

Okay I have to admit I've never seen Larry Nevel play and I'm going to check out some these Youtube videos for myself, so with that being said, maybe I'm old school but I've seen Mike Massey do some incredible things with the cue ball and he makes it look easy.

I'd also like to put in vote for some of the 3 cushion billiard players (and I won't even attempt to butcher the spelling on their names) but if you ever get a chance to watch some of them in action they are truly amazing and creative.

Larry was at my booth in DCC and was doing the frozen ball jump shot...he was able to get it over the ball but didn't make the shot...I was impressed nonetheless...the closest jump shot I've done is a chalks distance away...he tried the cross corner drawback shot but couldn't get it to draw back...he didn't have his cues with him and was using the junk cues that Jim Sux (LOLz) had in his booth...

1: Larry Nevel
2: Mike Massey
3: Jon Kucharo

I don't think this can be done with the balls frozen

OK, I have not been able to stop thinking about this. But
I have come to the following conclusion, but welcome feedback.

Say the balls are frozen. Obviously the cue ball must be hit
downward, and its direction coming up must be towards the
frozen ball. Well, how could this possibly happen if the
ball was frozen to it. There must be a gap, however small.

A couple years back while at a tournament near Chicago I saw Larry do this. Nick Varner and Grady were also watching and both voiced disbelief that anybody could stroke the cb the way he was. When you can truly iimpress those guys you've done something remarkable.

When i think about a MONSTER stroke, one name comes to mind, and he is not a Pro player.
He is a local guy that plays a pretty good pool.

His nickname is MOONY, and he is not only a monolith, but he has the strongest most powerful stroke of all time. You take a Mike Massey stroke, and raise it to the 10th power, and you are beggining to have an idea of how strong this guys stroke is.

Anyone from Philly who has seen it on some power stroke shot can tell you without any doubt that his stroke belongs in the Guiness Book of World Records.

I'd love to see it on YouTube...any chance of catching him on video? I've seen Mike Massey's stroke both while playing 9-ball and making trick shots. He's much better using it during trick shots than in regular play, but still...if MOONY's stroke beats his by as much as you say, it must be awesome to see!

I doubt it. I haven't seen him in at least a couple of years. I don't play that much anymore, so odds are against me even bumping into him let alone having a camera ready just in case.

I don't even know if he still plays pool.
But you've got to imagine one of those "worlds strongest man" type guys, and then factor in that this guy can actually play some. He's got one of those strokes, that when he's got a long distance draw, the cue ball draws in like...... "stages"

The initial stage where the cue ball looks like it died, followed by the slight back up cause the ball is spinning so fast but not grabbing, to the beggining of the cue ball grabbing the cloth, and then ZZZZZZZINGGGG!!!!

If i were to try and draw the ball like he does, i'd break my arm.
