as you all who come to this section often know ive been asking ALOT of questions about my table gc2
if i extend the rails i can use superspeed or artemis or anything else
from what i understand
superspeed is keeping it brunswick all the way
artemis would make it play more like a new blue label diamond
what would you recommend for me??
thanks in advance for your replies

Sounds easy enough.....but if you want the table and the pockets right...get someone that understands how to do the job correctly.
Like you mentioned...2 totally different cushions.

To start with the sub-rails to thick for either cushion....if you want your table playing right...get someone to do the rail work and cushions.

Where are you located?
You may want to ship the rails and have them done correctly the first time.

Your GC2 wasn't designed to take the newer K55 cushions made today, that's not saying you can't just have either cushions installed...because you can, but...as Mark said, unless the sub-rails are modified they'll never play at their best, in fact the Arteimis cushions are going to bank short and play real springy if the rails are not calibrated to accept them first.

mark and glen from what you are saying anything can be done but there is less involved with sticking with superspeed and going gold crown brunswick all the way
correct??
any comments about getting rid of the ball return and going with gc4 pockets??

I'm not a table mechanic, however my last set of super speed rails on
my 55-59 era sport king only lasted 3 years before the rails started
playing weird.

This is why I'm going with Artemis as soon as Glen figures out how
to get to South Texas.

No todays cushion profile is different....than they were in the past years...the sub-rail needs to be calibrated...for any cushion you would want to use.
the work is the same....the profile and the bevel are changed to give the best playability for the cushion used.

BOY IS THIS TRUE!!! I shot some pool recently on a GC that the owner had super speed rails put on incorrectly. The damn thing was like a pin ball machine!!! The cue ball was coming off the rails so fast it was like nothing I have ever experienced. After a couple hours you just learned to baby all your shots. I will say a good friend has a Diamond Pro Am with the new blue rails and Simonis cloth that was set up by RKC and it is slow compared to the GC with the SS rails. I asked RKC after shooting on it and got the same explaination that he states here.. Got to believe it's true..

superspeed vs artemis

I put some new superspeed rails om GC III or IV about 2 years ago. They may have slowed down a little I think but not sure. They still play very well. I did not know about a artemis rails at the time. If I would have known about the artemis rails I would have gone with them. My .02 cents worth.

Artemis.

I had Artemis rubber installed on my 8' GCII a little over a year ago. I am very happy with the way it plays. Worth every penny!

Do you happen to have a profile drawing of the old monarch cushions that would show the difference in dimensions between them and the k55?

Thanks,

JC

You would think, with all the damn gold crown 1s and 2s out in the world that many still play on, someone would have remade the old monarch cushion profile. Being just an installer in my area. I have installed both sets of cushions on gold crowns and Glen and Mark explains it clearly.

Mark, can you handle one piece OS-8 side rails from a late model Medalist? I may want to hand mine off to you. I live about three hours away.
