I got a new playing cue and I am making one of my Joss cues my break cue. What do you think is the best leather tip for a break only cue?

I would use a Talisman hard tip...that's what I'm using right now and it seems to work great....;)

You might want to try a Water Buffalo Hard tip as well, hold chalk and you still have feel without the clanky sound.

I like triangle tips. Currently I have a phenollic tip on my jump/break cue, I doubt I'll go back to leather, just because it's too much hassle to get the tip changed. Before the phenollic tip I had a triangle on it, it worked great, didn't mushroom at all I only changed to phenollic for jump shots.

I actually just had a Talisman extra hard tip put on my break cue. Works great.

The best performing "leather" break tip. Super duper hard, yet still holds chalk well enough to give you great control.
Man, you never miss a beat, always there to pimp Tiger products. I would hire you in a second if I had anything to sell. :D

As for leather break tips, my vote goes to Talisman Extra Hard as well, but I use Joe Picone white diamond tips on my j/b cue.

Has anyone tried the Tiger tips? Right now it is between it and the Talisman or a WB hard.

Hello,

Try the talisman BK. I've tested them out along with the tiger, and the stratos. The Talisman BK had the hardest hit in my opinion. Not Hard, like phenolic. But the best Leather break tip I've tried, the stratos came in 2nd, the tiger 3rd. Not that any of them are bad, all performed well. Just thought the talisman was alittle better. Stingray is another good one, along with the Sumo, and layered sumo. Stay away from Waterbuffalo, little inconsistant, and I've seen and fixed many WB with chunks out of them. I use wb as my standard tip on playing cues, most people want a Meduim hard tip, and that is what I think a Wb is. Just my opinion.

I like the Phenollic. Have you ever shot with one? I've actually played some pool games with it and won. I can put some english if I want and found it actually massey's quite well if you hit it right. It'll also teach you how to hit a ball softly.

I put one on a cheap $25 sneaky pete. Infact the tip costs twice as much as the cue it's self. But it hits like a freight train. And jumps great on a non-jump break cue.

As for a leather breaktip. I'd find the cheapest hardest tip you can find and use that. A Lapro or something along those lines.

I wholeheartedly believe in that which I endorse and I also know the products inside and out (I have personally been a part of R & D for many of the products Tiger makes).

As many that know me might say, that my standards are very high to the point of being a pain in the ass:D

You? A pain in the a$$??? That's an understatement

Seriously. Nico, not only does Corey work for Tiger Products, but he truly does believe in their product. Corey is one of the nicest & most honest people you could meet. I don't consider what he says on here to be "pimping" anything. He's part of a product that he believes in. It's really no different than you coming up with a product and believing in it.

Corey was a player before he started working with Tiger and he currently plays on the UPA tour. He's not just a salesman out there trying to make a buck. He knows what he's talking about & I agree with him. Tiger makes excellent products. Shawn Putnam, & Pam Treadway won't play with anything else. Pam is now sponsored by Tiger but I remember her saying well before she got that sponsorship that she wouldn't play with anything other than a Tiger x-shaft. Both Shawn & Pam have cue sponsors but they insist on using the x-shaft and Tiger products tips.

And yes, Corey can be quite finnicky. :p

Corey is just expressing his opinion. I think he really believes in what he sells and I see nothing wrong with that.
I agree that Tiger is very fortunate to have Corey working with them.

I would give nods to WaterBuffalo, Stingray, Tiger Redline, Moori Quick,

But its all personal preference.

I would say for the $$ get a Stingray tip. I can get them for 8$ so for a good layer'd tip you cant beat that.

Plus once you get them broken-in they do get very hard. But are good for both breaking and playing. Plus at 8$ a pop, i dont hafta worry about burning money when buying them lol.

I am using a Action Sneaky Pete Era05 i think and it has a hard azz layer'd tip on it right now, that came with it, and i use it for breaking and it does just fine.

The "pimping" thing was a joke, that's why I used the smiley face. I don't question Corey's belief in Tiger products, and I don't question his integrity either. I just find it amusing that every time a shaft or cuetip thread pops up, Corey seems to be in the first few replies promoting Tiger. I think it's great that he feels so passionately about Tiger and I know they make a good product. If I had a product to hype, I would do exactly what he's doing, in fact, I would probably hire him, (as was mentioned in my joke).

Hey Nico, sorry about my post. It was late and when I get tired, I don't do a good job verbalizing my thoughts. My post seemed to be geared towards you as if you had been rude to Corey and I didn't mean it that way, and I apologize.

Using your "pimp" reference as my basis, I really just wanted to point out to anyone that might think negative of Corey's posts, that it isn't the case. I know that & you know that, I just wanted to make sure that others did. ;)

Forgive me as I tend to get a little protective of my friends and I do consider Corey a friend as he has been very kind to me and talked to me quite a bit at events. He's a very personable person.

LOL, a friend from the forum knew that I was job hunting and sent me a link for jobs best suited for my sign. I gotta say, it's not too far off the mark. Have a great day! ;)

No worries. Upon re-reading my original post, even though it was a joke it does come off a little harsh.:o

I'll try to choose my words more carefully, and make sure to be clear when I'm just horsing around.:)

LOL, you did everything right... the way to get the point across that you're joking is to use smiley faces. The only time that doesn't work is when someone is a known jerk, which BTW, you are not... so far... of course you are pretty new here and we don't know too much about you.. :D :D

I was the one that didn't communicate well. (UGH, is this where we kiss??)

Welcome to the forum. ;)
