I am getting ready to start a local tip repair service, and I was trying to come up with a flyer for my service and was thinking of the tips im going to have to stock.

Besides the obvious Elk Master, Le Pro, Triangle, maybe a Milk dud or two, what others have you guys had experience with that are popular? I live in mostly a bar banger community if that matters.

I prefer a Kamui M brown and I will definitely have them in stock :) but should i stock all six types of Kamui, three types of Moori?

I was thinking a few Kamui, few Moori, and a few Talisman for layered tips.. Maybe Im wrong on my thoughts?

You'll have to try Tom Hays ultra skins. They play fantastic and they're affordable. You might even make some money installing them.....Rick.

There are more but you get the idea. Stock as much as you need for your customers and what is popular in your area.

Good luck with your new venture.
It will take some time to get your inventory up to what you need.
You will need to put most of your money back into the supplies till you get built up. But it will be worth it if you can stick it out you will see a return in both money and pride of a job well done.

Get ready to spend some serious money, Last time I stocked up I was into it for about $800.00. The days of buying just boxs of tips are long gone, Just the kamuis alone will cost more then you think, Black and brown
SS,S,M,H At the very least if you get 5 of each in both black and brown at a good price of say 12-13 buckks each your looking at about $520 bucks just for Kamuis. Not counting all the others.. Get ready to spend my friend.....

I would recommend keeping it simple unless you want to spend hours explaining the difference between tips to players who don't have the experience to know the difference.

I would stock soft tips - Elkmaster, medium - LePro, med/hard - Triangle, and whatever layered tip most people are talking about in your area at the time.

Exactly what i decided to do! Well said!

Well, I find that there are two sets of customers.

One set says, "I want a brand-x tip. I have always played best with those." The other set asks "Well, what do you recommend?"

IMHO, the first set is missing out on some better playing tips.

But when you recommend a tip to someone, either you have to have seen them shoot quite a bit, or you have to ask them a few questions about how they play. And I always offer to change out the tip to something else if they try it and still don't like it after a couple of weeks. Happily, that rarely happens.

But you need to accomodate both customer preferences.

My 2 cents,

Gary

Or, you could offer a layered tip that many can be quoted as saying hits as good or better than a Kamui for about 25% the cost, still charge as much for install but thats your choice.

Who makes ultra skin tips? Do you have details of how they are made?

And I'm sure there are many whom don't feel they hit like a Kamui but that's immaterial. I don't push any one tip. I don't feel that it is my job to advertise for other's. I try to keep in stock what people ask for. I don't have any of your's Tom because as of yet, no one has asked for one. When and if they do I will also stock those.

I have quit recommending tips to customers. I let people know that there are over a hundred different tips and someone must like them all or they wouldn't still be in bussiness. I've had people come back after recommending a tip to them and having them say that they don't like it and want me to replace it with another for free. One fellow who was a pretty good player was using a Predator shaft and wanted a tip that was medium hard and didn't mushroom. I also had a redator shaft with a Sniper on it. He tried out my shaft and said that he liked it and to install one on his shaft. I did and a couple of days later he said that he didn't like it and for me to install a Moori, which I did. He then wouldn't pay for the Moori as he said that he had already paid for the Sniper. You can't win for loseing sometimes.

That type of customer I invite to not come back.
I'm fine with paying for a tip to not have to deal with problem guys.

And I would ask him to see his shaft and if he hands it over I would have cut the Moori Tip off.

I had a similar situation like this with a customer. But I explained to him that if he paid a painter to paint his house pink and when finished he decided that he really wanted HOT pink instead does he think the painter is going to do it for free. Of course not you got what you picked and paid for.
