A word to the wise. On a dark street at night, drivers in cars CANNOT see pedestrians. They appear only as a dark shadow on the road. Especially if you are wearing dark clothing. Only something bright and reflective is visible, like the things you often see bicyclists wearing.
Another thing to be aware of. As a pedestrian it is extremely difficult to gauge the speed of approaching cars at night. They are moving faster than they appear.
When crossing a four lane roadway, DO NOT cross when one car in the nearest lane stops and motions you to cross, even if you can see no oncoming traffic from the other direction. The danger here is a car in the second lane nearest you. You won't see it coming until it's too late.
