This is my first cue from Kevin, and I wanted to share my experience with anyone looking for a great playing cue. I have owned a lot of customs and was looking to have one built like the one I bought from Kevin, who btw has been a great guy to work with because I want a second shaft and have been asking him a lot of shaft questions which he has very patiently answered.
All my customs up to this point have been stiff hitting cues, and this one is too, but the hit is not overdone and I get a lot of feedback which has been a boost to my efforts to control whitey. Its not a fancy cue but its a very nice looking cue, and I am getting lots of compliments on how they like the way it looks and the way Kevin installs his tips. They can tell the guy that built this cue is a player.
The first thing I noticed was that it was easier for me to pocket balls. This cue is a half oz. heavier than what I have been playing with so it took me a while to get comfortable with the extra weight, but since then I have noticed that the cue ball is getting to the places I want it to go more consistantly.
Also I really like the taper that Kevin puts on his shafts. Its very similar to the taper on my Barry Szamboti cue's shafts. In fact I got the Szam out of the case and compared the shafts to see if they felt the same, and they did to me. The Varney cue also has that tink sound when you hit with it, but its not overdone which I like.
I've tried to stay away from all those over used phrases that guys use to sell there cues, and that has been one of the best things in dealing with Kevin. He isn't pushy trying to sell me something I don't really want. He just answers my questions and lets me decide what I want to do.
I would be glad to answer any questions if anybody has one that I can answer. If I can't I'm sure Kevin can. He's a great guy to work with.
