Helmstetter Rare?

I have never seen a 3 piece like that. I do have an old Adams with the logo on the forearm. When did they start doing that?

I think the case is worth more than the cue?
I think this is one of Adam's snooker cue line? I have seen a few of these in my time.
I would guess wood screwing into a wood joint would be very soft in hit. I like my hit to be a little more solid, if you know what I mean?

It's a carom cue. The joint is very typical. You don't see as many of these as the other Adams, but they're not rare. Usually sell for a little more, though...

Not

For a player collector the helmsstetters made in RC's gaurage were some of the best cues ever made full splice with brass 18 pin anyone want to pm me with what they have in mothballs I might be one of the only people on earth that will play with it! Nick

3 Cushion Cue!?

Hi ya Nick,

I think that Scott Sherbine had some of these for sale on his site a few years back.....but, this cue is definitely a 70's vintage cue -- similar butt to a Level 6 N/B-6 "Lufthansa" cue valued at $345 at 70% with one shaft up to $785 at 90%. I'll bet you the case is worth $200....not sure what it will go for but $500 is probably a fair opening bid ;)

A wood joint is very solid. Maybe the firmest cue I had was a Helmstetter carom cue. Extremely solid. The shafts on the linked auction cue may be more of a pool taper tho, it was hard to tell. Anyway, if you get a chance to hit with a wood joint sometime do it.

yup, the wood joints also provide the most feedback. there's nothing, imo, that comes close in terms of stiffness and ball reaction.

...`70s, not sure about that?

I woud doubt the date too. I was looking for a carom cue recently and amm 99% sure that model was available just a few years ago...

doubt it gets a single bid @$500.

I don't know much about old Helmstetters but just how unusual is this cue?

A Helmstetter Carom Cue. He also built CCS carom cue (Carl Conlon Special) for Carl to sell. The different between its carom and pool cue.
Carom Cue use a white joint collar. Pool Cue use a black joint collar. This was described to me by Dieckman when he held the Carl Conlon estate auction for billiard item in late ninety.
