I thought I put forth persuasive, powerful information that would convince any poster about the correctness of my positions on the UPA and Charlie Williams. That has obviously not been the case.
Therefore I apologize to anyone I may have offended. Listen, I feel bad enough that for the 4th year in a row I have to sit home and not play in a discipline I revere. I'm ready for this to end. It's a no-win for me and for pool.
That's all I have to say except the 14.1 event I had in Vegas was on Kim Steel tables and won by Bob Hunter.

Grady, we're not the people that needed convincing, kinda like preaching to the choir. CW is the one, and we both know he ain't changing the way things are, for whatever reason.

Grady:

Just as hangemhigh said, we're not the people that you need to convince. AZBilliards is nothing more than a large swimming pool that pool-playing folk like to visit, to unwind, swim a couple laps, catch some rays, maybe even read a book pool-side (i.e. do research on articles), etc. There's a whole 'nother world outside this swimming hole, Grady.

Let's put it this way. In the Rocky and Mugsy vein, I'll quote the "Bugs Bunny as The Cop" character:

"Well, all right, rabbit, you've convinced me. You should've received an invite."

Now what? Now that you've convinced [some of] us, what now? What part of the resolution to the problem has this served?

Respectfully,
-Sean

Grady,

I always thought this was a travesty and on top of that, a bad pr/marketing move.

It seems like a no-brainer to me. One of the all time great and well-known pool players should be invited to every 'invitational' put on.

But I don't have any influence over the people involved. But I want to let you know I support your cause.

Personally, I think you should run a 14.1 tournament of your own, invite the players who DESERVE to be invited, and disregard any tournament that would disrespect any great players due to politics or personal feelings.

A great player like you doesn't need their tourney to prove himself. You can have a better tournament yourself anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Grady,

As stated, nothing posted here will matter....CW controls the event.....I have never seen him come to AZ other than to post advertisements for his events.....ie, he could care less what we think, so arguing the matter here won't work for you, regardless of the result....

I have no idea of your current speed, are you in the top 100 players in the world in 14.1????.....if you are, it's certainly a shame you are not being invited, but CW pulls the strings.....he could just decide to invite people he likes....

Based on what a lot of people have said, it sounds like you bring a lot to the game, and I'm sure many 14.1 players are more than thankful......

You have an opportunity.....play in the qualifier the weekend before event, kick some butt, and take that spot....then you'd already be up there and it looks like the event starts the next day....

Tom Watson plays in the 4 Majors. So does any of the great players... auto invite in Golf. After what Norman did last year and Watson did this year in the Open how can you argue against it.

That being said the Pool World is run by alot of greedy, lying, thieves. Not all, but alot. It is what it is and we sit around like the rest and complain, voice our opinions on such matters only to fall on deaf ears. They will do whatever they want regardless. Know why? Because they can and players will still fill the field and after the fact it is all forgotten until the next injustice. Some of these people will not do the right thing because they aren't forced to. They don't care if they don't act politically correct because there are no ramifications if they don't. Until this happens unfortunitely, nothing will get better.

My 2 cents.

I think you have your facts a little mixed up there. No one gets to play all the Majors without qualifying for them. There are ways to qualify - being a former champion at the Masters gets you a lifetime exemption. Winning any major earns you a 5 year exemption for any major tour event. You don't just get to show up because you used to be good, or are a legend.

stop littering the forum with facts. People will say stuff like Tom Watson plays all the majors without even looking at which ones he's played. The last time Watson played in the US Open was 2003 and before that 2000. The last time he played in the PGA Championship was also 2003. He wouldn't have played in those two, nor the past couple of British Opens had it not have been for his victories in the Senior British Open which qualified him for the regular British Open.

Ask Davis Love about being invited on past merit. He is arguably one of the 5 best American players of the past 20 years. He has won 20 PGA Tour Victories and a Major, and has been on the Ryder Cup team countless number of times. Not to mention he still finishes in the top 10 every now and then and can still drive it as far as anyone.

He didn't qualify for the Masters or the US Open this year and didn't get an invite. Instead he played in a 36 hole qualifier for the US Open and didn't get in, and just sucked it up and didn't say anything about not being able to play at Augusta this year.

I wish people would actually know something about a subject before posting.

by the transitive property, since you beat Grady 3 times and he only beat you 2 times, then you should be invited to all tournies too.

If Grady gets all invites and Sparky > Grady then Sparky gets all invites.

Grady we all love you, at least most of us, but sometimes you get a little carried away. I agree you and other champions should get an exemption as long as the field is large enough, but you and I both know that Charlie Williams isn't going to do that.

Please forgive my ignorance on this question.....

Is the Charlie Williams everyone has been speaking of, Heoun Ho Kim?

I know either way I'm going to sound like a complete a$$ for asking this

Yes I believe so. You are not anything negative for asking. I wasn't aware of his Korean name either. I had to go look it up.

Why doesn't Yu Ram Cha have to qualify?

If she doesn't then Grady shouldn't have to either.

Let those two play for the spot. I will bet $1000 on Grady.
