Bar table break? - 11-03-2009, 03:38 PM

I recently joined a bar pool league. My total playing time in 50 years of pool is about 20 games on a bar table.
My question is do i break the balls as hard as i can or is a softer break better on a bar table? I play tonight so any opinions will be tried tonight.

I know a lot of guys that use the second ball break and not a real hard hit. I'm on the head string and a hard hit myself, but I think you just have to move the cueball around and experiment because most bar tables don't break alike and what works on one might not work on another.

What are you playing 8-ball or 9-ball? If it's 8-ball hit them hard from anywhere between a diamond off the long rail and the spot to start with. In 9-ball you have to find the spot for the QB and the speed. Plus every table is different. Johnnyt

just like a big table. some tables break better at a certain speed. i play a reasonable amount on a diamond pro am bar table and it breaks the best imo in the 20mph area.

I always hit the head ball with a firm stroke at center ball to hold the cue ball on a barbox. Now sometimes I may change where I break from but I generally start from the first diamond beside the corner pocket on the short rail <<<ED

Just always trying to keep in stroke !!

So would that be a 9 on dirty cloth and a 5 on new cloth?

If it is 8-ball the 2nd ball break at 50% is effective and if it is 9-ball then it is better to hit em square at 50% than to miss em at 100.... So try 65%-75% hitinem square and you have found the dream combonation...=)

I'll get um next year...

I hit the head ball at an angle with 75% power and it seemed to work best. I went 5 and 0(8 ball). Afterwards i played ring 3 ball for the first time. 8 players at a buck each rack 3 balls break and shoot till you clear them. If there is tie the money carries over. One round tied 2 times so the 3rd round was worth 24 bucks . I broke 2 balls in and pocketed the 3rd ball for a total of two shots. I won that one and got some lunch money. Money aside it was a lot of fun.
