I doubt if the no-smoking is the issue. The fact that I allow smoking is my number one complaint from the public. More the economy. People like to spend as little as possible. Start with giving coupons to the daytime people for one night a week like Wednesdays for half off pool or something. Some might come in. Some might attract others by having cars on the lot.

Have had coupons since day one. got a new one now that the customers hand out to new players they meet that have never been in my room, if they bring one in, the regular customer gets 1/2 hour credit for each one turned in.

Not one yet after 3 weeks, your right people dont want to spend at this time.

thanks Craig

No Ball Knockers!!! - 10-26-2009, 10:33 AM

Hi,

Unemployment is the problem with decreasing revenues.

I have a 11,000 sq. ft room with 25 tables and a bar with a little food. The smoking ban did not hurt us as they just go outside for their
smokes. My bar business has pretty much stayed the same give or take. I have 5 leagues and that's going good.

The ball knockers who come in to just have fun and are not any good at the game have vanished. I seem to see only serious players come in.

If you can hang in there for another 6 months to a year the jobs will pick up and people will go back to playing pool for fun with the extra money.

I am very lucky to have over 200 league members in my room because they make it happen for me on weekday nights.

It was sad when I went to my local hall on Saturday at 2pm and it was still closed. Sign still said noon. I mean wow this was a Saturday. 9-ball tourney day. Not sure what happened but it doesn't help matters when they don't even open on posted time. When I've been in there have been plenty of people in there and on Saturday nights they do black light rock pool which is an attraction for the college crowd. The table rails are lined with neon and special balls and they crank the jukebox. Not real pool but it does give them some business.

Idea I have been bouncing around in my head is to give a customer discounted pool ALL the time if I am allowed to put a window advertisement or Bumper sticker. Not just the little ones but something decent sized on their cars. If they have a job like pizzas where they are driving around a lot it might be good advertising. What do you guys think of this idea?

I think it`s a good idea myself, although some guys are picky about their cars.

I thought about advertising for businesses on the sides of the table lights for a couple bucks a month.

Recent article in local newspaper gave us a lot of good exposure. We were lucky to get the free advertising.

That is great stuff! I hope that things start to roll for you. That is the best free advertising you could ask for.

Mickey

I have 2 more weeks of baseball left in my fall league. Once that is over I will be down to play pool in your room on the weekends. Do you still hold the tournaments or is business so slow that players are not showing up for them.
Either way I will be down to play.

Thanks

Kevin
