The B-5 McDermott must be quite rare as this is the only one I have ever seen. This one is in near new condition, read the description on the attachment. The pictures and description say it all. Maybe someone knows if it looks like or is a Cortland wrap on this cue. Cue was not refinished or re wrapped recently as stated in description.

Sure looks like Cortland to me. These B series McDermott cues play as good as anything out there and in this condition is a great deal at that price. Rodcar is one of the good guys no worries dealing with him. Good luck with your sale.

It doesn't look like Cortland to me, it looks like the Cortland like Linen material that was made by Blue Mountain.

Either way it's still a hard to find old McDermott and would be a great player or collector cue.
 
Description says ivory joint and butt, never knew they used ivory back then...33 yr old cue, probably a good catch for a Mc D collector.

Thanks for the kind words guys. That's some balls of string you got their manwon, nice photos. Had to look at the cue description again. In front of ivory it says recon. That means it has the look of ivory but is not ivory. Really like the way the older B and C cues play, someone will be very happy with this one.
 
Was cue refinished

I have a b5 as well, but has the original nylon wrap on it. I am not selling mine, but was just curious. This is only the third B5 I have seen on here, yours, mine, and phinmole has one. Cool piece of history. The only thing I noticed about mine is that the shaft is naturally dark (not dirty), why would that be? Does that mean its an old growth shaft? Just Curious.

I have heard though that the B and C series are the best playing McDermotts ever made. Good luck with the sale, shouldnt last long as its a hell of a player.

the RS Series built in 1995/96 were also extemly nice players! Hope to *catch* one of em in the next 2 weeks for a *steal-price* ^^

correction

If I would have clicked on the link first, I would have answered my own question. There is one more qustion though.

When I called McDermott to refinish my B5, they told me they would have to replace the joint material and the butt plate due to their new finish not sticking to the old material. They also said they would make a new shaft with the cue as well, is this what they did for you? Just curious as I decided not to send it to McDermott if I couldnt keep the cue completely original. Thanks for the info, and the opportunity to look at a great cue.

I think the "dark" characteristic of the shaft may have to do with the composition of the chemicals used to originally finish & protect the shaft. The patina that the shaft now has is a result of the aging process. I have a couple of old Dufferins from the early 80's that I used to play billiards with - they have the same characteristics. Still play fine, too.

If anything, it shows that you've take care of the cue, and did not go overboard with the sandpaper when cleaning the shaft or replacing the tips. Good show.

Could talk all day on old growth, white, yellow, patina, etc. I think it's a matter of personal choice. I may like a stock shaft and you may like only predators hit. Real interesting subject. On cue refinishing, you don't need to replace the joint. Direct any questions to Jayme at McDermott. Also have a RS-1 and 5 for sale. Recon ivory is not ivory, just means it has the appearance of ivory. Thanks for your comments.
 
It also says Irish Linen white/green wrap. With slight warping on the butt and shaft...........
 
Refinish

This is what I was told directly from McDermott. I dont know if it was jayme that I talked to, but they had this deal going for a refinish rewrap and new shaft for 150, I was told that mine didnt qualify for that due to having to replace the buttcap and joint material. I was told that what they use to finish cues now doesnt stick to the old material. Was I misinformed by them? They lost my business because of it. I want to keep it original. Thanks for the info.
