vintage tad and gina from the 60s

Kind of a different question for this post, but I didn't think the block lettered Ginas were in the first 50. If that is the case, how few were made with the script lettering? Thanks in advance for the information.

this gina is one of the first 50 made!!!

I know that the Blue Book is incorrect about when Ernie went to the block lettering. He did so well before the BB says he did. This I know for a fact.

Bill, I am curious about how to determine if a cue is one of the first 50. I've heard this "first 50" thing mentioned before but never knew what makes this so. Ernie told me how he can tell one of his first 100 cues, but I'd like to know what puts a cue in the first 50 made.

Thanks!

if you pull an auction b/c you were to stupid to go find out what something is and its value then you are a NIT and a complete idoit. Especially when you list it as a brunswick and it says clearly on the cue GINACUE

being dumb shouldn't get you a get out of jail free card

Your initial post to this thread said that both cues were for sale for 3600 each and that the Gina was pendining sale then you edited that part out. Do you have authority to sell these cues for the owner or do you own the cues?

Just to let you guys know how this went down! I recieved a cal from the ebay owner, Robby. he said he had 2 brunswick cues and the cues jumped to 700-800 each. could i look at them and tell him what they are worth? after the party i was at i looked them up, called the man back (sat) and said for shure one is a gina, and was not shure the other was a tad but thought it prolly was . and they would not pull real money advratized as they were. i told him if i authent both for him he could pull real money if he wished to have me look at them.ship them and pay me my fee. he has hired me to do so what he does with them is up to him. Iam sorry that he pulled the auction on you bargain hunters, but know i will sleep better now knowing that this nice young man(single father) and his10 year old daughter that have been struggling to make ends meet will now have a blessed christmas! isnt it great to hear good storys of nice people comming out on top for once Thank God. Bash me i you want i did the honorable thing !

ernie told me that the shafts with the steel inserts were his first, he said that he made 100 shafts like that and were prolly from his firs fifty cues.

I think you are right there. The lettering on the ring doesn't really matter as far as Ernie can remember and he dates the early ones by the inserts and by the shaft wood. Some of his very early shafts were ash and as you say, the steel inserts were early.

Thanks

Kevin

The seller listed some stuff he didn't quite understand and the auction took off pretty strong. He did what most smart people would do, he pulled the auction and went to an expert to find out what he had. The owner is far better better off for contacting Bill (although I wish he hadn't) and I think its a pretty far stretch to blame either the seller or Bill.

I don't think anyone is bashing you Bill, I think it was just a discussion on Ebay in general. If he got worried because they shot up so fast, then he obviously was smart enough to seek some knowledge on his own. I don't think you can fault a guy for doing that. I think the bargain hunters would only have a beef if someone was to e-mail the guy and alert him directly.

Since he has a 10 year old daughter and is single and struggling to make ends meet, I am sure you'll refund your fee.

Gina & Tad

I have read all of the post, and think I will put my opinion in this discussion. There are alot of people hurting during the down economy. Who knows what the circumstances were for this single Father and Daughter. These cues may have been in their family for many years. And they may have had to sell them to make ends meet. As for Bill is concern, I will have to commend him for helping. If the amount of money he charged the family is an issue. I will be happy to help to pay the fee. Let's all try to make someone's Holidays a little better.

That's fair enough I want to bid.

Now I get it. That was the same info he gave me. He said that when he started out he had 100 SS inserts and when they were gone he couldn't get any more so he switched to brass. So, assuming 2 shafts for every cue it would mean the first 50. I was thinking first 100 not factoring in that at least some people bought two shafts with their cue.

Thanks for the info. :thumbup2:

BTW, kudos on helping the guy out. Another example of you taking care of your customers in an honest and professional manner.

Ernie was one of the pioneers of selling 2 shafts with every cue. Figures that Ernie would invent a way to add value and price! You know how much I want one of these Dominos and I'll be happy to wait to bid. Sounds like you have until Christmas to make a deal with me on yours before I get this one and the demand (and value) of yours plummets.

Hey Joe, Guess you found you'r ebay snitch. LoL.

I believe that these vintage ginas will end up being the bushkas of 2110 on until the world ends in 2012 lol
as far as collectibles these will be the best investment you can buy right now. think about it, this same cue 4-5 years back would sell for 1500-1800.
cues in general have continued to go up un price at a huge rate in the last 10 years. and even in a unstable economy like after 9/11 they still climbed. my sales are down 30% from the last couple years but prices on alot of makers have not!!! where the market got hit was the lower end in cues- but the big names keep going!

how can you tell this?

What he meant was it was among the last 50 left, because Kevin Brewer bought all the other ones:wink:

How you doin' there Merylane?

This Gina here is the same model as my first Gina but my rings were not colored. I got mine in 1972 but it was used from the 1960's. In 1985 it was in a car of mine that was stolen. If anyone sees a Gina like this with the initials "COYT" on it, let me know. On 2nd thought, just grind off the initials and spare me further suffering.

I pretty much thought these auctions would go "viral". I've bought a few cues that were mis-labeled on ebay but the cue guys who are still involved in ebay are pretty good about figuring out most of them in the end and word gets around.

People really should do their homework before they auction valuables.
