Cue Designer?

Is there somewhere amongst the vast interwebs some sort of flash utility, like CueTable, that allows a user to design their own cue? I'm really trying to figure out how to explain to a cue maker what I think I see/want in my head.

If there was a cuemaker, like cuetable, app I could try different woods, veneers, etc to at least get a *general* picture of what I think i want.

Anyone ever seen something like that?

I don't have an answer for you Johnny, but if there is something like that, what a genius idea. I'd be experimenting all the time with designs.

Most cuemakers I know like to keep it simple. Put something down on paper with crayolas, and be sure to use lots of color.

The thing I would like to play with is how different wood tones look together. Is rosewood on the forearm going to look decent with cocobolo on the butt sleeve? Do maple and purpleheart look okay together? Things like that. That's where a visual would help people, so they can familiarize themselves with how things are going to look before they put down mucho bucks on a custom.

anytime i get one made i just draw it up on paint! if you have windows 7 the new version has most of the inlay shapes used on cues

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Also, for me personally, it's a matter of getting to know the jargon behind designing my own cue. I'm trying to figure out what the correct terms are for what I want - then of course, to get a general idea of what it sort of look like. Each wood piece, of course, is different, but testing cocobolo into ebony or vice versa going to look better...curly vs birdseye... leather vs linen, ivory vs steel vs phenolic, 4,5,6,8 points, off-sets, inlays, etc...

I'm a web developer, but i'm not a flash developer, otherwise i'd create it myself and sell it to all cuemakers. lol

Ahhh guy on top beat me to it.... You can design your cue on Jacoby site step by step.

Photoshop is a great tool. You can use mask tools to put different materials where you want. I could make you an example if you send me some cue specs. Hope this helps.

That's a cool site. I was thinking also it'd be nice to be able to take something you make in photoshop and apply it to a 3D cue. I have the software but never really tried doing exactly that. I might play with it sometime and see if the results are worth posting. I think it'd be neat to see how certain mixes of woods would look when very close up, and the 3D program has a ton of woods built in.

the jacoby site was ok. only 3 out of the 10 items worked. like the point wood wouldnt work, the wrap wouldnt work, rings around the wrap wouldnt either and so on. its cool though

whats the program that has a ton of woods built in?

Fish: POV-ray. Some old school slow raytracing software. It's not super easy to learn but it's free, and once you get the hang of it, something like a cue with different textures is easy.

I'm trying to find a good sample of the woods but so far all I'm getting is: http://www.imagico.de/imenu/_woods.inc_.png

You can manipulate it to get more swirl/knots/birdseyes etc.

Here's one of them in a scene: http://news.povray.org/povray.binaries.images/attachment/<464aaae5@news.povray.org>/screws.jpg

oh good, i thought it was must me that was having issues with it.

the ip-based one is excellent, except their ebony wood has a strange pattern, but aside from that, it's excellent! :)

what designs do you have in mind?
4 Pointer, 5 Pointer, 6 pointer all high, 6 pointer alternating hi-low, 8 pointer?
