Do Diamond tables bank shorter than other tables ?

I've heard that Diamond table's bank shorter then other tables. For all you bankers, do you find this to be true ? If so how much do you compensate when playing on Diamond's ? Why do they bank shorter ?

With all the howlin' that goes on about Diamonds banking short, you would think that your post would have brought a flood of responses.

I've measured cushion response on Diamonds, but unfortunately, can't locate my notes on them. As I recall, they are not much different from the following measurements on a GC V, less than a year old:

Impact point=0.5 diamonds (10-5 bank): 3.5 degrees short
Impact point=1.0 diamonds (20-10 bank): 5.5 degrees short
Impact point=1.5 diamonds (30-15 bank): 8.5 degrees short
Impact point=2.0 diamonds (40-20 bank): 8.5 degrees short
Impact point=2.5 diamonds (50-25 bank): 10.5 degrees short
Impact point=3.0 diamonds (30-15 bank): 8.5 degrees short

By way of comparison, my home table with generic k-66 cushions banks "less short", but I can assure you it does not play as well as the GC V. Home table:

Impact point=0.5 diamonds (10-5 bank): 2.0 degrees short
Impact point=1.0 diamonds (20-10 bank): 3.5 degrees short
Impact point=1.5 diamonds (30-15 bank): 5.1 degrees short
Impact point=2.0 diamonds (40-20 bank): 5.8 degrees short
Impact point=2.5 diamonds (50-25 bank): 6.2 degrees short
Impact point=3.0 diamonds (30-15 bank): 6.6 degrees short

I have played on GCs with cushions like rocks and like sponges. Which is why I don't like blanket statements like "Diamonds bank shorter than GC". Because, it all depends which GC you are talking about.

I guess that would depend on one's perspective. If one plays primarily on Diamonds, then all the other tables would bank long... : )

I think there are variable involved that make this a difficult question to answer. A lot of the Cold Crowns out there are 40 to 50 years old. If they have been stored for a good part of this time the rubber tends to harden. If they'd been played constantly, the rubber should still be resilient, especially if they are equipped with Manhatten Cushions which were pure gum rubber without the synthetic stuff added that most of the cushions are made out of currently. The Manhatten rubber would last for a very long time if it stays in use. Kind of like a rubber band. If it's stretched regularly they last a long time too but if they are stored for a period they get brittle. When the rubber is most resilient, the speed makes even more of a difference as to whether it banks short or long. I think this is where this story originates. The Diamonds as a whole are newer tables and usually get regular play. With lively cushions the harder you hit the bank shot, the shorter the rebound angle.

I don't know if this makes it any clearer but I hope you get my point.

Yes
Except when Chuck Norris banks. Then the pocket moves to accommodate.

I could give Norris 8-3 at banks.
..haven't figured how to get paid though

And yes,Diamonds do bank short..
but not as short as Kim Steels

yes. no formula bro you just gotta get out and try for yourself

Sure but they feel good once you get the speed down

Yes they do but once you get over that they are a dream to bank on. Just like any other table in a strange room that you go to once you find out how the table plays you make adjustments.

Thank you. I don't have to answer now. Diamonds bank short and ............

Yes they do, that's why on a Diamond I always bank long. Seem like I always over compensate.

What would anyone have to complain about if Diamonds banked dead on? and had the perfect speed coming off the cushions?;)

Yep.................................................when you compare em to GCI's II's & II's

FWIW: the only time I play on Diamonds is usually at the DCC. I played in my first one almost 10 years ago. My personal experience has been that Diamonds *did* bank short for most of that time. I mean, real short.

But, my experience has also been that at the last two DCCs, the tables banked very near to normal, whatever that is. So, I don't know whether I've just grown more accustomed to them and can adjust faster (unlikely :-) or whether there's been a tweak on the models used for the more recent tournaments. YMMV.

I'll agree with short, and will also agree that pool is 99% feel. How many of you bankers pic a particular spot on the rail for each bank and bank the object ball at that point....

According to the Diamond rep my friend talked to in Vegas, Diamond banks correctly, the others bank long.:p Yes, they bank shorter than GC's.
