Well everyone another year of the Fury 14.1 Challenge is slowly creeping towards us once again and unlike the last two years I am jumping into the planning stages a lot earlier this year. The primary reason why I am doing this is to ensure that the event once again goes off bigger and better than last year.

No matter what happens in this forum whether it be fighting, arguments, from the good things to the bad things we are all joined in a single goal of promoting the incredible sport of 14.1 and I hope as we have for the last two years we can all once again come together for the betterment of the sport.

First I want to take this opportunity to thank Steve Kurtz for his foresight and vision in thinking of this event. I want to thank everyone who has helped us along the way whether it be monetarily or through time donated to helping out at the event including our individual sponsors and of course the people within the booths keeping the scores and truly making this event what it is. Most importantly I want to thank our title sponsor Fury. Scott, Heidi, Matt Carter, and of course everyone from the Sterling Fury team has done nothing but support this event from the very beginning. We have some great things in store for next year and I am looking so forward to a continued successful relationship with them for another year and many more to come. I have never seen a single organization so actively enthusiastic about supporting our sport of not just pocket billiards but 14.1 in general. Last year Heidi became quite the fan. Sterling and Fury produce incredible products at fantastic price points for the consumer.

This all being said we continue to grow. Even in the economic downturn our industry has faced over the last few years our event last year grew to a point where we were able to pay our pro players more and offer an amateur prize which we will continue to do this year as well as in addition add something from our sister event the CSI 14.1 Challenge. This year upcoming the Fury 14.1 Challenge will now have a ladies prize as well. As we were growing the last two years so has the number of lady participants involved in this event.

For everyone's convenience this year we will be offering the option of making donations through paypal. All we ask is that you use the "gift option" so that we do not incur the fees associated with paypal.

The email address we will be using for paypal this year is canonlover516@gmail.com.

If you are interested in helping us out this year there will be a second forum thread to keep track of the donations that we receive. Last year the thread got behind a little and certain people's names and donations received were not updated. I can assure you that this will not happen for two reasons.

1. I am even more committed to this event this year as there are some new things in the works.
2. I want to make sure that everyone knows how appreciated their donation is.

I look forward to any and all responses with any ideas and suggestions you may have. Please feel free to message me here on AZ or via email at ceames516@gmail.com. My phone number is 516-581-3209 I would love to hear from you about this event and will be more than happy to talk to anyone and give out any info they may need.

Thank you again to everyone and I look forward to another great year with you all.

Sincerely,
Charles Eames
Tournament Director

Important information when using PayPal's "Gift" payment option

Folks:

Yeah! Really looking forward to the 2012 SBE 14.1 Challenge!

I'm about to step out to work and can't spare a more detailed reply, but one thing I wanted to point out with Charlie's instructions for PayPal "gift" submission, is to not make *any* mention in the "you have money!" email that your money is for tournament "entry fees," "sponsorship," or anything like that.

Meaning, when you make a payment in PayPal, you are presented with a form you fill out that actually is the body of the email that Charlie gets notifying him he just received funds. When you change the fund type to "gift," make sure you make NO MENTION of entry fees or anything like that anywhere in the form. REASON: PayPal has gotten smart to people's practice of sidestepping the PayPal fees, and they've implemented a "catch phrase" filter that flags any of those transactions where it's suspicious the money is not truly a "gift." Once flagged, the transaction is queued for a moment while a human operator at PayPal personally inspects the transaction. If it is deemed that either the sender or the recipient [worse] is attempting to sidestep PayPal's transaction fees, the transaction is either halted/bounced, or the PayPal fees are applied anyway, or worse, the sender/receiver get their PayPal accounts closed if it'd happened before. In any of these circumstances, you *will* get a nastygram from PayPal.

Be very careful. You can make mention of "donation to the event", but do not say "sponsorship," "entry fees," or anything like that that would trigger a "non-gift" filter at PayPal to sit up and take notice. We don't want any snags on Charlie's (or your) PayPal account due to a slip in words.

Hope that makes sense, and folks know what I'm talking about. I have a little inside information on this, so I wanted to let everyone know.
