This type of wheel SHOULD NOT be used, it was purchased at Harbor Freight. This type of rim fails ........(this only after 80 tables moved). Just an fyi if some of you may have a similar style.

Slate dolly, first use

Hey John,
First off, I am am asshole for not buying this long ago. Great tool! It's nice to see ideas go through the process and come out as a quality well made and proven tool. Can't wait till the powered attachments come out. You know that I could easily build this with the training and machinery I have, so take this as a huge compliment when I recommend it to others.

If you are on the fence about this, just do it already. I'll make back the money invested on three jobs without a helper..

A real drywall cart is the best. I can move 3 sets of slate at the same time through corridors without breaking a sweat on this.

:killingme: And that drywall cart will go up and downsteps with three sets of slates on it? Look how big that thing is, look at the size of the OTLVise, you can store it in your work vehicle.

with three sets & three steps no. one set three steps, yes. one set and a small landing its amazing. the size might be a problem if you run your installs out of an old Toyota t100 but if you have a box truck or a nice trailer it straps to the wall perfect.

WHAT? you have to load and unload that cart? by yourself? seems like a PIA to me...

so you load it up with slate and it is good for flat hallways and corridors I agree and thats it. Even unloading it would mean you still have to put the slate back on end to flip on the table by yourself. Unless it was a serious distance the total effort would be much greater with the cart for many reasons. That cart is so limited to what it does. OTLVISE can move 100 times what any present dolly or cart can, maybe more..

Honestly though if I were moving 3 sets of slate at a time frequently enough I would build that thing as an attachment. At least then you wouldn't crack tile floors and could go over grass.

Final note: that cart is expensive and will basically sit idle 1000 times more than using an OTLVISE. Sliding slate off of a cart by yourself and standing it up will also end up chipping. That doesn't happen when you land or take off with an OTLVISE unit. I don't see wheel locks on that unit but know they have them. I designed my handles using bicycle specs so that I can add disc brake type handles, cable for adjustmet etc and hopefully soon a portable power unit. The hard part is over, now its fun just coming up with new attachments.

For some reason Firehouse's are my favorite jobs, carts can't do this!

Yours look awesome for doing a move by yourself. The drywall cart isnt going to make you be able to work solo. but it makes life easy for a two man crew. honestly though the expense of the cart is a deterrent. especially if your running two man crews anyway.
