Hello everyone I just joined this forum and already I'm impressed at the amount of information on it.

I currently play in the APA but just got back from the National 9ball tournament. I have no idea how that tournament is regarded in the pool world or how it would translate over to other leagues and I was wondering if anyone can help me out in that regard. Because of circumstances beyond my control I only made it about 5 rounds into the tournament before being knocked out by someone.

I'm currently a sandbagging (yea I know its bad but my area is known for it and I do it for all the usual reasons- my teams need me at that level for field a team, everyone else does it in my area) lvl5 in 9ball and I am looking to branch out past the APA into more competitive open pro tours just so I can get my ass kicked and learn more.

Greetings.

Immediate attention should be directed to
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=237445

And also the recent Barioni thread in regards to LD shafts.

Both are quite the interesting reads, to say the least.

Good luck in league!

Thanks for the response!

That custom poolroom is pretty nice I hope someday I can do that myself:)

As for the LD shafts I currently play with an OB-1 shaft on a McDermott butt. My breaker is a Scorpion 17oz.

In the future I may be looking into getting on of the newest OB line with a Pro taper and traditional white ferrule.

Personally I like either a Kamui Medium or a Moori Medium.

I only use blue Masters chalk.

Best cue is purely subjective to the player. Like I said I use a McDermott Dubliner with an OB-1 shaft which I love. Yes, yes I know some people think it hits dead cause of the foam core but whatever I like it:)

Best joint would be no joint in my opinion as it gives the best feel. Hence a house cue has the best hit since it's one solid piece of wood. I hate using house cues though cause they aren't pretty:)

Best ferrule is also subjective- ivory has a tendency to crack but its speculative whether that is from age, mishandling, temperature change, or the like.

Personally I like the wood ferrule on my ob-1 because it disappears when I'm shooting and all I see is the ball.

Best tip tool is probably a piece of sandpaper.

Best aiming system is also subjective. I started out with ghost ball aiming a while back but have since moved on to a kind of hybrid system based on the railroad system. Instead of picturing a railroad I picture the path of the ball as a path of light. I find it's easier to visualize.

Best case... I can't say I really care about the case.

Best LD shaft... I like OB.

Best cloth is Simonis hands down.

Best pool player ever I consider to be Mika Immonen because of his almost perfect cue ball control.

Some of the topics I don't know much about is type of wood and how it effects hit feel as well as deflection/squirt.

I would also like to learn how to move on past the league format of play onto bigger tournaments.

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome I look forward to learning more about this game from this forum:)

Welcome to az zpele!

There certainly is a whole lot of info to be had here on az in addition to some good humor and the occasional pissing contest. You know, just like what happens in a real community.

Based on the answers you volunteered above, sounds like you've been around the sport for a little while and have a good idea on what's what.

I think it would be helpful if you were to post your general location so responders on this thread might be able to suggest where the types of tourneys you are seeking may be.

Looking forward to interacting with you.

Best,
Brian kc
