Its almost March, its still very early, assuming Archer, Morris, Hatch and Earl are out... I want to win and think we can even without these guys but I think we need experience and youth. I happen to think we have plenty of both but what we need are nine ball champions. Proven winners at the game of nine ball. Here is my team....
1 Shane Van Boening ( 3 time US Open champion, 3 time DCC nine ball champion)
2 John Schmidt ( US Open nine ball champion, experienced, great all around)
3 Shannon Daulton(two time DCC nine ball champion, lots of experience but still young)
4 Corey Deuel ( US Open Nine ball champion, reads racks better than anyone, changed the game of nine ball forever)
5 Donny Mills (a nine ball specialist, will play anyone in the world RYO 9 ball)

In the history of the DCC nine ball event there have only been 3 Americans that have won it....SVB 3 times, Shannon Daulton 2 times, and Troy Frank once...and I don't think Frank plays anymore. The only others Americans that have the credentials to say they deserve to be on the team are Gabe Owen and Jeremy Jones and I am not sure how much they play or how much they even like nine ball.

After these guys, its all a guess on who Mark Wilson wants to give a shot to....Who really wants it? I have never met Mark Wilson but everything I have heard is good regarding him so that bodes well for us all. And as far as I know all the guys on my team have not disrespected the game but instead are all real students of the game....

Whats your team and why???

That is a very solid and deserving team. I doubt the team we make will be as good as the team you mentioned though.

It will be a little younger, less exp., and more geared toward the future, I'm thinking.

You're wrong ------------> "Ginky Won DCC 9-Ball"

Jeremy and Gabe both won U.S. Open 9-Bal championships
Jeremy first then Gabe back to back years.

I think the only person that you picked that will be on the team
is Shane.

Actually the case is easily made that, when it comes to consistent excellence in elite field events, there are only two premier American players, Van Boening and Mike Dechaine.

Mike has posted these finishes of late on American soil.

DCC 9-ball 2013: 3rd
Players Championship: 9th
Ultimate 10-ball: 7th
US Open: 10-ball:7th
US Open 9-ball: 9th
DCC 9-ball 2014: 6th

Of Archer, Morris, and Deuel, not one of them has more than two top tens in these events, which are the last six events in America having a truly elite international field. Earl doesn't even have one top 10 in these events, and it's a joke that he's ever in the conversation as one of the most elite Americans.

I really don't see how you can make a case for anybody but Mike Dechaine as the second best American 9/10 ball pool player. Mike outperforms the others over and over and over and over.

Just an example of discounting the efforts of a great player because he's unpopular. Pretty comical that anyone would leave him out of America's top five, and nearly as comical to leave him out of the top two.

SVB I love him and he got allot of talent - but he's seems to struggle when playing on a team.

And I know there is talent in the rest of the guys mentioned but it still really doesn't compare against the resume's of the European team.

Especially a sub par team....SVB is world class period...Europe has five world class players on every team...North America's top three that are world class are SVB, Alex, Morra, Appleton, Mika and Hohmann....The last three live here but play for the other team...:sorry:

I agree with everyone you mentioned here except for Morra. He's a great player and all, but if you're going to throw him in the mix, you're opening the door to a lot of guys who play at least as well, and probably better.

Personally I think a good rebuilding team that would also have a shot at winning would be:

SVB
Oscar (knows how to win and grind it out even when struggling, great safety game)
Bergman (he just won the Hard Times tournament against Biado and had a good showing at Derby)
Archer (right attitude, good to have the leadership quality and not to many people lining up to play him just yet)
Dechaine or Bartrum (I grudgingly put Dechaine on here because I really hate his attitude, but he is one of the best up and comers, so respect given where it is due and Bartrum is a great grinder, I think that's what it takes to win this thing. Not 5 and 6 packs but being good at dealing with the pressure and finding ways to win games.)

Just my two cents...

I really, really like this lineup minus dechaine...

Meanwhile, Earl Strickland, the most winning-est player in my lifetime, 5-time U.S. Open 9-Ball Champion, multiple world championships from around the globe, actually played well this Mosocni Cup. When he was teamed up with Shane, they both had a good inning.

The Earl haters can continue to hate, but Earl sells tickets. Aside from Jeanette Lee, he's probably the most well-known American player there is. Any event he walks into, all eyes are on Earl. He's a living legend.

Earl Strickland shot well last Mosconi Cup.

Hater are going to hate, but when it comes to Earl, can't touch this.

I think Mark has to seek advise on players personalities and select perfect fit. Certainly skill is critical, but if a player is not truly satisfied with the team, the performance might not be up to par. Certainly SVB in, Justin Burgman, seem to have some fire in him, if he can join, not sure if he can pick Mora, Canadian, no to Cory D or the Cannon, great players but might not perform well in clock shots games. Earl questionable, unless all team members vote for him to join. Justin hall seem good, but seem to not play as much as the others!

Not sure I really care who's selected, I just want them to win!

And is there no concern for long term success? Seems like changing almost every member every year is not comfort inspiring.

Guess I don't really have any know about matchrooms position on new/ old faces...

SVB
Justin Bergman
Skylar Woodard
Justin Hall
Corey Deuel

I like my team above. But, prefer to see a MERIT based system??? Mark Wilson really needs to GIVE some guidance on the selection process and what events he will use to gauge his selections???

Shuff, Dechaine & others have not been playing well lately! That could change!!!

KD

SVB
Oscar D.
Mike Davis
Tommy Kennedy (very solid play during BB, this guy still has the nuts)
Earl (there, I said it)

SVB is a no brainer. Oscar D. is due. Mike Davis has experience and still regularly beats many of the "young guns" mentioned in other posts. Tommy Kennedy ended up one of the top ranked players durning Bonus Ball...he is about as strong as he ever was. And despite all the criticism, Earl remains one of the strongest players in the U.S. and does better than most in his MC appearances.

I like Shuffett, Woodard, Hall and Bergman, but I don't think they're ready for this type of format/pandemonium yet.

I like Oscar and Bergman for sure. I too think SVB will be there. I'm not too up on how a lot of the other young guns mentioned play. I wouldn't pick Corey the way he has played 9 ball lately, but that could change in the next 6 months or so. Johnnyt
