Good photos but I'm not sure what Slate means by "inspired".
But then again I hardly ever get what they're saying at that extremist organization.

The guy on the right in the fourth picture (third line down) looked a lot like Jack Hynes, and I wondered if it was him, until I noticed the date (1970), about 20 years too soon...
I LOVE these photos...she picked the perfect time and place to capture several distinct generations of pool players, from the dinosaur with the hat, Rambow and cigar who is clearly of the Greenleaf/Taberski/Cokes vintage to the young guys who are likely our current old timers. Some serious Old School stuff here, they don't make rooms like this anymore. I know Diane Hoppe is taking great photos today, but she should do another Black/White photo journalistic piece like this (or the lady who took these could, she's got a great eye for drama) just taking photos of pool rooms and pedestrian players from around the country...maybe Sports Illustrated would buy it and we'd get a little "press". :smile:
