Daytona Joe, Rest In Peace My Friend

What do you say about someone who touched the hearts of everyone they met?

What do you say about someone who loved life, his family (especially his daughter Callie, Granddaughter Hailey aka Queenie) and his friends.. He gave so much in so many ways and didn't ask for anything in return.

Joe and I would talk on the phone every few weeks. After half an hour of hearing what Queenie had done lately, we could get down to upcoming business. He just adored her. His last Christmas card was all about "The Queen". He just loved being her Grandfather.

His other great passions: his Harley, riding, he just loved it. Pool, the racing circuit and golf, he lived life to it?s fullest, he played hard, he loved and was loved.

I can't believe I am never going to hear from him again. I was "Line One" to him. This name began several years ago when I would call him, my phone number would never register on his phone. It would only say "Line One" instead of my name or number. It was the strangest thing, but he always knew who was calling. So, from then on, I was Line One.

So many times in the past day I just wanted to pick up the phone and say:

"Aye Joeey! Line one here! What ya go and do that for? This wasn't supposed to happen this way. We all had plans, you were supposed to bring the desert, what happened? How do we bring the New Year in without you? We weren't done playing!

I just wanted to let you know, that we really will miss having such a good friend as you. You are irreplaceable; no one can fill your shoes. I pray that god has a plan for you, because you left here way to soon to finish your plans in life. Geez guy, we all are going to miss you so very much."

Bob, Joe, and me spend New Years Eve together. It was an annual thing since he moved to North Carolina. His wife Norma, (who I adore) had taken a breather from each other in the past year, so Bob and I kept him busy on New Years. I had always hoped that she would have been coming this year too. My heart aches for the pain she is in now, I think about her, and pray god gives her strength that closure comes, so she can heal as well.

God works in mysterious ways, I don't understand this one, but it is what it is. We have all lost a dear friend; I guess it was just his time.

It takes times such as this to think about your loved ones, and how quickly life is here and then its gone. Be good to yourself and the ones you love. Take that special time to tell them how much they mean to you, because you never know when it will be the last.

Lastly, please remember Joe in your prayers.

I didn't know Joe, but it is so obvious that he was well liked and had many good friends. I'm sure that mean't the world to him.
As you said, God works in mysterious ways and life often seems unfair and even so temporary.

I wish you all the very best.

Rest in peace, Joe.

I had no idea....but did notice that he hadn't posted up in a bit.

Joe was a great guy, very forthcoming with his opinion...and I have nothing but respect for that. Good, bad, or indifferent...he always said what was on his mind.

Shoot 'em good up there, Joe.

Go and Rest In Peace

So sad to hear. God is taking all the good people early so that they can have everything else in place for others that he takes. May he rest in Peace and may he sit at the right hand of God and watch over all of us. My condolences to his family and friends. Also Eydie, thanks for letting us all know of this loss to the board and our lives.............................mike

I didn't even know who Daytona Joe was until I saw his name and photo. He was truly one of the good guys. I only knew him from being around him at tournaments. We played at one of the BCA Senior events. It was a good match and we both had fun hooking each other and escaping. I got lucky but he could have beaten me as well. He was tough on those little boxes.

I wish there were more like him in the pool world, always a pleasure to see and be around. Very knowledgeable as well about all things pool.

I am also very sorry to hear this. May Joe rest in peace. He had contacted via web in the past, inquiring about having a cue built, and we had several conversations. I found him to be a very nice gentleman from what I knew of Him. I know he once lived near me, although I never formally met him in person as Daytona Joe except on here, but now that I see his picture, he looks really familiar, and It seems as If We may have crossed paths before. My prayers go out to his family, I'm saddened Not to get the chance to know him better, and It's always sad to loose a valuable AZ member such as him.

Daytona Joe

This is Callie and Norma. We are preparing for daddys services tomorrow. I would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. I know that my daddy is a very special person who touched alot of people. The last year has been priceless. I know now that there is a reason GOD chose to take my daddy away and although I may not understand why he was taken away so early I am able to know that my daddy is in a better place and will always be watching over all of us. Correcting our shots making one for opening and even keeping a close eye on his grandaughter making sure Queeny feels loved. I am happy to know that my daddy made a great presence in many peoples lives and please stay in touch.

Rest in peace daddy and I love you................................

Joe was one of the most forgiving people that I know. I am sure all is good with him and Art now.

Agreed, Eydie. I don't think Art has anything to worry about at all. Joe was not the kind of person that would allow anything come in front of friendship with anybody. That was what made Joe so special. Art, if you are reading this, I think you're one of the good guys and I'm sure Joe felt that way about you too.
