Question about Everest tip

Hi,

I just got my 314-2 last week with the everest tip on it and was wondering - for people that have used it. What is the best way to take care of the tip as far as scuffing or tip pik or just what do you use on yours.

Thanks,

BVal

Dont' tip pick a layered tip! Just shape it and leave it alone.
I was guessing that I shouldn't pik it. What tool do you suggest to shape it? I have a Brad Scuffer - an ultimate tip tool - sand paper.

gives you the shape YOU want, not what the tool wants!!

I like the Willard tip shaper. Very easy to use and they don't seem to ever wear out or clog up. Predator recommends a dime radius on tips to minimze deflection.

Hey Brady,

I got a new P2 with the Everest. If yours is like mine, you may have to change it soon. After about 3 weeks, the tip got really hard and glazed over. I miscued every 3rd shot and conditioning the tip didn't help. I finally changed it and put on a sniper.

I use a 200 grit sandpaper on my Sniper tip, and I have never had to re-shape it since i had it installed, and I break with it as well! Tiger makes a fine tip!

In search of the perfect tip:

BVal, I occassionally use a tip-pik on my layered Talisman and Sniper tips with no problems whatsoever. Don't jab and twist. Just jab only.

As far as shaping or a quick rough-up it's tought to beat the sandpaper strips within the simple 6 inch curved plastic holder. Only $3 and they'll last almost forever.;)

What's the name of your great looking dog! Is he a pitt bull? Warm and fuzzy buddy?

I will keep an eye on it. That is the first time I have heard that about the everest. I have used the sniper in the past and like it as well. For now I will stick with the everest. :)

Thanks :) What grit?

I assume it may be the same as what Corey Harper @ Tiger recommends for use on the Snipers.... 80 grit. I would consider using a Sniper if you don't like the Everest.

I have one of those curved plastic strips and will use it. I have used a tip pik on my sniper and morri's before and never had a problem. Must be because I don't twist just jab.
The dog's name is Addison Bear (Addy Bear)- She is a Chow/Shepherd mix. We saved her from Sherriff Joe's pound. She was maybe 5 pounds when we got her and she is now about 65.

I found something that beats it hands down.................the sandman shaper. For 15-20 and it has a lifetime warranty. Everytime I pull mine out I get comments on how badass it is. I have had mine 6 years, and it still looks like new.

i would suggest a tip tapper, not a tip pick. they work great. i use a morri medium III. personaly hate the tip compared to the origionals but not going to change it as i have another cue on the way.

You know this is my same problem. I got a predator Z first gen shaft with everest tip and after a 3 or 4 weeks I started to miscue much more using lots of english. When I first got it, it was hard to make it miscue. I use a cue cube which helps alot but it is nowhere near as good when I first got it. I may try another tip when I need a new one.

80 grit sandpaper is all you'll ever need.

BVal, FWIW, I have been using the Everest tip on my Z shaft for about 10 months now and haven't had to do any shaping/tapping since the first time I did it when it was new. I did however, on the initial shaping, take a few layers off of the tip as I heard that it plays a lot better after it wears down a bit. Seems to be good advice, but be careful as the Everest is fairly soft and the leather comes off very easily. I really like the way it plays though.
