As I promised I show some new blanks in progress. Amaranth, Cocobolo, Asian Rosewood, black and white Hornbeam.

Those are really great. I've not heard of hornbeam before. What are it 's characteristics? I'm assuming it's native to northern Europe?

Hornbeam is a subspecies of beech. It's very close to maple in hardness & weight, but has "flecks" or "rays" in the grain like oak. Very cool wood not often seen in cues.

Those blanks are awesome!!! I have been half wittingly tinkering around with full splice techniques but nothing i'm happy with yet. What i'm trying to do is get those sharp points at both ends like these blanks. I gotta give credit where it's due, those are amazing from what I can see in the pictures. I'd like to see closer & clearer pics, though, if possible. If those are as fine & precise as they appear to be in this picture, then you are doing something very right. Great job!!!

Thanks

What are these for? Whats DBK? Are they 5 pointers?

These are butt blanks for pool cues . DBK - my initials (Dmitry B.Komarov) and my nickname on this forum.:) Here four and six points.

Hornbeam is a subspecies not of Beech but of Birch. Hornbeam is a little stiff and hard than a maple. In Russia hornbeam basically use for Russian billiards cue shafts.

I'd like to see closer & clearer pics, though, if possible.

It is visible on the photo that all points are sharp like on a V-groove points on classic pool cues. Thanks.

Hello DBK

So sorry for my ambiguous questions. I meant to ask if these are for sale? Just sample pieces and you can built similar blanks.

Looks like very nice work!

I have been looking around for an affordable cue to fly about with.

Best regards
Chris

Hello Chris

Thanks. I make these cues for sale. However they not all are ordered. For example the second and the fourth from above I showed to nobody still. Similar bottom and the middle are possible for the order too.
I try to make all cues in a unique variant. They can be similar but will be different.

By the way. I plan to make all these cues with Hornbeam shafts.

Are you sure? This confuses me, because the german word for hornbeam is "white beech" / "grove beech"

Those blanks look truly awesome! When I've saved some more money, I'm definitely going to order a DBK break cue (I'm already the proud owner of a DBK playing cue)!

I have checked up some directories. All is true. The relative of a birch. Try to translate fragmentы of the text from two Russian directories. I have attached fragments below. Russian pronunciation (transcription) - [GRAB]. Translation in the Russian-English dictionary - a hornbeam.
----------------------------------------------------
Систематическое название (латынь) - Carpinus
Семейство березовых.....................

Граб - род деревьев, реже кустарников семейства березовых. Насчитывает порядка 50 видов, произрастает преимущественно в Северном полушарии............................
----------------------------------------------------------

By the way I plan two blanks as break cue. But they are already ordered. Sorry.

I have answered all messages. But I am unwell now therefore I can detain some answers today. :(

Unfortunately last month I had no time to work with pool cues. But work was set going. To the birthday it was possible to make something.:) Here one cue just from under mills. White shaft has crown too. The closed up view on the second photo. A crown white hornbeam to white hornbeam. Others two cues have found sleeves. Shafts have three crowns. Joint - Radial Pin. Hope I can finish them about new year.

Those cues look really great! What is the white/white crown for? Does it increase the performance?

Btw: Happy Birthday! (my birthday is tomorrow :-) )

Jule thanks for congratulations. Such concurrence. I wish you happy birthday too.:)

The crown on a bottom of shaft gives additional rigidity to shaft. Therefore the general structure of cue can be made more thin without damage to a shot. Hence the weight of cue blank will be less and it is possible to provide balance more back.

are the veneers recuts to cover the actual splice?

All crowns are recuts. Not a veneers.
