now this is a great shot an position :D

once you two post a video of yourselfs doing that shot with that much distance and playing someone like mika with the pressure of having to win and you get that kinda leave then ill say thats a pretty routine shot until then....dont take credit away from this amazing shot by saying its routine

Sarcasm.. Don't you get it??

Don't get your panties in a bunch.. Poolplayer was using sarcasm, did you notice the , that means he was kidding..

The shot was amazing, don't be so quick to reply with a negative reaction..

I would love to ask Corey if he knew, with 85% certainty that he would get that position... I mean, surely there's a less-risky way to get position. But, I guess he was in the zone and just felt it was the right thing to do.

Hell the kick before the shot was an amazing kick. On a bar table I would play that out the way he did, big table I am playing safe all day.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but, oh well..... The shot- it comes up all the time in 9 ball, and is fairly routine. To get that much 'hook' is a little unusual, and is dependent on the conditions. To draw across and back down for shape on the 5 is not hard at all. Why the announcers made such a big deal of it, I don't know.

As to taking that route, quite frankly, Corey had his head up his arse. While not hard to do, it was the wrong way to go in that instance. He EASILY could have put some right on it and gone two rails to get to the same spot, and wouldn't of had to worry about hitting it so good.

Those thank think I'm full of it, try it both ways. You will be surprised.

To say that Corey played the shot wrong makes sense. I've always thought that myself as well.

However to say that the power draw without any English is easy...is...well...never mind. I'll refrain from flaming. :p

I base that on the fact that if I can do it on the first try, it can't be that hard. Again, the hook he got was unusual, to get down there for position with draw is not hard.

I'm fairly sure you're one of the most die hard and dedicated players on the forum. Or at least you appear to be. An 'easy' shot for you is not easy for 99% of players. Hell, even Mika applauded the shot when it was made, and that says a lot. :p

Also, it was made mid-match, during a US Open. I'd miss gimmies under those circumstances. lol

what mojoe said.

it was actually a joke because wybrook made a similar comment in a thread i started a few days ago

back to the joke

any decent player should be able to do that

I think it was the extreme hook he got *after* it hit the rail that sent the crown on fire.

I will routinely hit a similar shot with draw-outside so that after it hits the rail it comes back down-table. However, it's the draw that sends it sideways, then the outside that sends back towards me - but it appears he hit that shot with just pure draw, so much so that it drew all the way back after contacting the object ball and the rail.

Now, I can't do it from where he was - I just don't have *that* pure of a stroke. [yet]

I fully believe that if that shot had been straight in, it would have drawn back down to the bottom rail then all the way up to the top rail and probably back to center of the table (given the same power of course).

However, I do agree that was not the right shot; from a "textbook" aspect.

anyone that thinks it's easy should prove it and post a video or keep their mouths shut when grown folks are talking

Exactly. There are tons of us who could get that position with outside draw. Its not that difficult when you add English into the equation. But to hit it with pure power draw and have it bend coming off the rail is ridiculous. I don't think many pros could duplicate it....let alone would call it easy. It blows my mind that people would even consider calling it as such, especially given the circumstances.

The three ball kick was luck. But luck also comes from skill at times. I've done similar cue ball antics in the past, but anything similar now would require about 40 tries. :)

I'm not trying to take anything away from Corey's phenomenal stroke, but I have to put a few things into perspective...

If you've ever been to the US Open, on that table, the "TV table" it is cleaned before the match, the cloth is typically new or like-new, the a/c in the convention center is typically set on the cool side and the lights are fairly hot. What it adds up to is a table with slick cloth, under warm, dry conditions. There is a lot of slide, which adds to the big hook action the CB took.

That said, it still takes a monster stroke and good accuracy to pull the shot off.
