We got one case maker contributing to the thread without pimping his own work.
We got another case maker (not sure if this is true since I don't think he makes his cases so let's call him marketing manager), who, in a disguise of thread contribution, continue to pimp his own $hit by providing direct link to his own website.
It's called PROVIDING EXAMPLES. When you say gee newbie case maker Chaz I'd like YOU to DO THIS and new comer Chaz says sure Mr. Jazz whatever you want but I am not quite sure yet HOW TO DO that then it's nice to have an example of HOW TO DO IT.
When other newbie case maker says gee I am having a really TOUGH TIME with my 8oz leather then it's nice to not only get advice on HOW SOMEONE ELSE HAS DONE IT - but also to SEE IT DONE.
There is a reason that I don't do just ONE STYLE of case - and this reason is so that I can learn and grow and experiment with different ways to do things. As such I have done way more in 15 years than most case makers will ever do. So when someone says hey I am having trouble with this or that then there is a good chance that I have already done it or something similar and can provide a description and better yet AN EXAMPLE.
There are a few aspiring case makers who don't post their work here, YET, that I help out often when they email me and PM me. If someone asks on a PUBLIC forum for advice then I will help them WITH EXAMPLES of whatever I did to solve the problem and if they can use it, great.
Shall I publish my order list to show you that I have enough orders to last the year and cases in design to last another half year beyond that? You think I NEED to advertise anymore right now?
I will be happy if Chaz and some of the other case makers get booked solid for years to come. I have said this MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY times; the market can sustain many more case makers. There is no way that Justis, Whitten, On Q Case, Brian Bonner, JB Cases, Chaz Dillon, Murnak and the four or five others can satisfy the demand that exists for custom cases.
A 'true' custom case is one that is a new pattern from the ground up. A semi-custom case is one that relies on an existing pattern with customer driven changes to it. Both of these methods are time consuming to design. There is a human limit to how much time you can spend designing and building cases IF you want to do it right. Hell even you want to do it wrong there are certain steps you still have to do and that takes the same amount of time whether done wrong or right.
Back in 1991 when I got started I didn't have the internet to go to, I didn't have any help from any other case makers. Now you have people like Brian Bonner, me, Jim Murnak, and plenty of leather workers to chime in and help the newbies.
So please forgive me when I say that your opinion of me means exactly NOTHING. I didn't give Chaz any criticism of the work he has done. I gave him some advice on how to do the work YOU WANT DONE.
