Should pros be allowed to sell products on the main forum?

There is a time and place for everything. This is not that place.

Besides, we can't agree on what exactly constitutes a "pro pool player" anyway.

Should pro players be allowed to sell.......
Well?

I presume that the prime target of your question must be C J Wiley and his recently released DVD collection.
Because of the nature of his product then I think the answer is a definite YES. He is imparting knowledge which expands the horizons of the game and he backs it up in frequent dialogs with interested forum posters.
But if he was trying to sell life insurance or any sort of hardware, well that is a different scenario altogether - not that Mike H would allow that any way.

But knowledge is power and CJ is empowering AZ members.

I think yes they should because they have been there and done that. They know what it takes to get to the next level. I dont like several things that go on here but I am able to ignore those that bother me. I may not agree with their ideas but I dont have to buy them either. I think everyone wants to get to the next level even the pros (which by the way can be defined by the tournaments they have won in my eyes). Just my 2 cents.

It depends on what they are trying to sale. If a pro is promoting a DVD that he/she is sharing their knowledge of the game then I am all for it. After all this is a Billiards Forum so I personally would not mind a Pro promoting themselves here.

These pros are only sharing knowledge if you buy it so I dont see how thats different then anyone else selling a cue or anything else that might help someones game.

If the sale benefits the forum then of course, the guys who do post stuff on here have been contributing to the forum with information and stories so they are giving back and not just taking IMO. I wish more pros would post on here but I think some are turned off by the way some idiots act on here but in life it takes all kinds.

Is it a coincidence pros have joined shortly before they are launching a product, and should they use the MAIN forum for this purpose?

there is a clear conflict of interest here, I think.

Take an honest look at half of the threads on the main forum. We're really just wasting our time here anyway (my threads included).

As long as they are contributing information and stories then who cares besides you? ;)

Well said, I like the presence of CJ and Stevie . If the village idiots weren't so rude to them maybe we would have more pros to interact with. I for one enjoy their stories and what brought them to their current systems. What chaps my azz is we've always had people selling their stuff here with little to nothing said.

I like coincidences, like posts coming from cellphones....no dupe ip addresses that way... coincidences...

Is it me or does it seem like new members with less than 10-5- or 100 posts always seem to have problems with what has worked for years?

How do you get them to go back under the bridge?

Bob

With an ad no. With a conversational tone where they are willing to discuss their offerings with the rest of the members, yes.

Whose interest?

The owners of the forum who sell advertising against the amount of views obviously have a strong interest in having content that is compelling to the readers. Having professional level players, and in fact bonafide champions, using this board is a very compelling reason for amateur players to choose AZB over other choices?

Or is it in my interest?

As an amateur player who loves to compete I prefer to have the pros here to pick their brains and get their perspective on how they play the game.

Or my interest as a seller of goods?

I also like to be in a place where pool enthusiasts hang out in order to have my cases get high visibility so it's in my interest that there is good content on AZB and lots of reasons for amateurs to be here.

Or the interest of the pros?

If they have something to sell that's about playing pool then why not allow them to do it in the main forum instead of treating them like common sellers and relegating to the products forum? Why not treat them like the stars they are and give them some space. If you don't want to see them then put them on ignore and the problem is solved.
