I was just thinking, with all the action going on at the DCC. What is the biggest recorded money match there has been? I know it all started in Johnston City back in the day, but the DCC is the new Johnston City.

I would like to hear first hand accounts of large amounts of bills being tossed around as well as the players names and the location. Please no hearsay.

Pics are even better. Video, well, you get the prize!

$50,000. Toby Flaherty vs. Jack Cooney at the Las Vegas Cue Club.

I was a railbird for 3 straight days 8 hours a day. Great one-pocket.

I saw Cliff J.(actually his backer) lose right at $80k to Cooney at Mr. Cues II in Atlanta a few years back.

Southpaw

That's way more than I've ever seen...$2000 dollar 1-Hole races was the most that I've seen in person. There were $300 dollar sets of 9-ball going on at that time, too. My $20 races were enough for me...

I was also at Mr. Cues during that epic battle. I was drunk as shit barking at Johnny Archer about golf and almost lost all the money I had on me and the keys to a Grand Cherokee (which was 50 miles away at my house) to Marcus Chamat getting the 5 out when I couldn't hardly stand up. Luckily my friends didn't let me play.

I heard a lot of pople where I am from (Oklahoma) state that they took money from Toby. I believe he is from OK too, right?

Another of my buddies said that Toby had "His Table" at the Cue Club, and that it was usually a spot for great action.

James Walden told me he took $150,000 from Flyboy one time. I have heard this repeated many times in tha last couple years. Anyone hear about that matchup, or maybe even see it?

Any stories of Flyboy?

For myself it was 1992 in St Charles, Illinois. Gary L. from St Louis was getting a huge spot ( Im about sure it was the 6 and the snaps) from Parica. Lutman's backer was this large and very loud lady. She keep barking at Paricas backer to raise the bet and what was originally a four figure amt went to 17k each. The lady literally had a shopping bag full of dough. She also had two or three large guys hovering near her that were obviously there to make sure the cheese was protected.

1989, last game of straight pool between Harry Plattis and Glen Hancock. Scores 121 Harry, 52 Glen, going to 125. Harry missed, Glen ran 73 and out, for $16,000.00...witnessed by Mike Zimmerman, Dan Louie, Hal Mix, Todd Marsh...as well as countless others...I should know, I'm Glen Hancock!

Good reply. That is the kind of first hand account I was looking for.

I liked the chapter in Playing Off the Rail entitled "Return to Plattisville"

I always here that guys name come up when talking about big money games.

Hey Glen, you know Cole Dixon?

Man, I need to get up there to sweat some of those big money games before it's all gone!

LOL...Yes, I know Cole quit well as a matter of fact.

WOW!! Some of you have seen some big time matches for $$$. The most I ever saw was two - four man teams play for $1000 a man. $8000 on the line is nothing to sneeze at either I guess.:D

I love true stories like that, especially when they have a good outcome that you will never forget no matter how old you get! Nice run Mr. Hancock for all the cash!!!

Did nobody hear about the matchup between James Walden and "Flyboy"?

Does anyone know who Flyboy is?

James told me about this matchup (I think he said it was in Baton Rouge), but I though he was full of hot air.....later on I heard the same story from someone else here in Washington state.

So, the story has some strong clout behind it.

I actually watched the match in Playing off the Rail where "Boy George" beat Kamikaze Bob for about $18K. Bob was drunk and had no chance to win. I think he lost about 10 out of 11 sets at 2 grand each getting the 7 ball.

I watched Annigoni drill Louis Lemke the same tourney for $5K in a ten ahead match that lasted only two hours. Kamikaze Bob backed Louis in that one two...

I wasnt there, but LOTS of players were-its easy to verify ask anyone at Cue Club in Vegas who's been in town long enough. it was in 94 in Vegas Archie the Greek Vs. Bobby Baldwin at the Rum Runner on a bar box. Archie won 1. mil over 3 days, $50K/rack 9-ball. So he was ahead 30 games, he took that $$$ and parlayed it up to about $26mil and blew it all back, Toby Flarty got him for $600K just before Archie went bust about 3-4 months after he beat Bobby to start the run, Most of the $26M was made from craps with 100X odds at the Horseshoe and playing Doyal Brunson poker-jack Binion was staking Doyal.

Flyboy is a guy named Jimmy Spears or real close to it. I believe he owned 'Lamberts' in Baton Rouge for a while and also owned a huge number of some very profitable 'Video Machines' (hint, hint). His go-offs were legendary though i didnt personally witness anything big. All the top gamblers made their way to BR during this time which i think was the early 90's.

Rodney Morris beat Boy George(Dave Rodden) for $60K at BuckTooths in Manteca years ago just before he went away, I think he gave George the 6 out and the breaks, George was a good gambler but there isnt a pool room in the world big enough for me and him to be in together-its a fight looking for a place to happen, but that was years ago.

Rumours always seem to fly around Rodden but he seems pretty chill when I see him play at Hard Times in Sacramento sometimes.

I guess he was also supposed to fight some martial artist for $$ the same year at the Sands I saw him gamble, but I never heard a word about it until I read the book.

I was in a joint called Green Way billiards there BR in 86, there was some guy named buster merchant playing 10 ahead for $5,000. I watched that game for 8 maybe 10 hours it was light outside when he finally won, he was down 8 at one time and came back. I was just passing through and at the time didnt play good enough to make any $$$ there, I'm not sure I ever got good enough to make any $$ there were alot of strong players.

I knew Rodden when he first started playing, we ran around together, he lived with his Grand mother in Lodi, The game with Rodney isnt a rumor my friend worked at Buck Tooths, Rodden couldnt stand to lose and wanted to get in a fight everytime he got beat, I played him cheap-I didnt have any $$$ back then and didnt sell coke, so he stepped up the gambling and we became enmys, it was prety bad there for a while, Jason Hall made peace between us, but most of the Rodden stories are true, I lived there at that time and was at the pool rooms everyday, making $$$ on the rail I had a line on all the action.
