What Ghost do you play even?

The other "How do you play?" thread got me thinking about the subjective rating systems that we've always been using (A, B, C, APA6, SL4, etc.). As another poster described, such rating systems are rather meaningless since we have our own definitions of what a B player or APA5 should be. Why can't we all use a rating system that is much more OBJECTIVE?

I think there is no better objective way to gauge your speed as a player than by giving the particular rotation ghost with which you play more or less even, say for a race to 5. The only subjective aspect of this rating system is what type of equipment you use to determine your rating. For consistency sake, let's assume a fairly tight table with 4.5'' corner pockets as the standard for the "ghost rating".

For example, I currently play the 5-ball ghost fairly even (I beat it roughly half the time, while losing roughly half the time) in a race to 5, using a Diamond Pro with pro-cut pockets. So my ghost rating would be G5, for ghost 5.

So, what is your ghost rating?

(Warning, this is a public poll, so don't answer if you don't want to knock your action. Or at least lie. ;) )

Hmm...considering the low turnout of this public poll, we must have lots of hardcore gamblers on this forum.

You can always grossly underestimate your ghost rating, like I did (I wish :p ).

Me too dude. Lol.

33.3% can beat the 10 ball ghost in a race to five on a regular basis?! Lol. I think if the other poller's are like me they didn't read your post about the race to five part until after they submitted their answers.

What is wrong with you guys?! You need to add more options to this poll... My high run is two... I guess I'll have to default at 3

first I need to clarify something. When you say the 5 ball ghost, are you playing the 9ball ghost but only getting out to the 5 consistently? or do you rack for only 5 balls? Also you break then take ball in hand right?

Anyway, I mostly practice 10ball, and I'd say on most days the sets go 5/7, 7/5 somewhere in that range. Last week I found a stroke and won 3 straight sets races to 5, 10ball GCIII, 4.5" pockets, 860 Simonis.

this is a good way to test speed IMO!

Good question that needs clarification.

When I say 5 ball ghost, I mean racking only 5 balls. Also assume everything stays down after the break, and scratching on the break isn't a loss.

I actually never really play the 5 ball ghost...since it's cumbersome to rack only 5 balls. I practice using the 6 ball ghost. Right now, I'm losing on average about 5-3 to the 6 ball ghost, but I dominate the 4-ball ghost. So that's why I say I'm a G5.

not playing much lately...getting beat first round the few times I have ventured out to play in the local tournaments. 3 ball ghost sounds like a good game to me :-)

The 7 ball ghost I would play for the cash (if I had any)
I have beaten the 9 ball ghosta few times, but I wouldn't bet on it

what i'm gonna do is have one of my programers write a front end program to set up the length of the race, how many balls are used in the game, pocket size and seperate field for different rules, the back end program will take that data from the player and generate reports, and archive them and also put the data into graphs. And probably a few other things I cant think of right now, this Idea popped into my head a week ago.

It will be intersting to see historical data over a one year period of time and see how much improvement a player has, or in my case how much worse, i'm not jokeing. I was playing last week and as most of you know my back is a disaster and i have been playing less and also worse each month, which got me thinking about how bad my condition is, i started playing again for several reasons getting my back better was one of them, well that isnt going good, each month i seem to be playing worse and I dont have any evidence of that, so building a program to track "Playing the Ghost" idea popped into my head.

I remember last june I was beating the 6B Ghost easily 4 & 5 packs were easy now I run a 5 pack once in a while, my decline is due to my health, but for other people it would work the other way-hopefully I'll be like that again.

When I get back to America I'm gonna have one of my computer programers write a clean front end so it will look proffesional which it will be and another programmer to program the back end. I have to teat it and think more abot it, when its ready i might sell it(real cheap), sell the rights to someone else or give it away, my programmers are 6 figure guys so its gonna cost me to create it, if i break even i'm happy, first things first I gotta get a beta version

If Im breaking well, and playing 80% or better of my best speed, the 7 ball ghost. On my high gear I usetacould beat the 9 ball ghost with ball in hand consistantly in a longer race, but it has been years, and I dont put in the table time like I used to. :(

Race to 7, I can beat the 6 more times then not. Not so with the 7.

yeah, Im lucky to run 3 balls, If I have to in roatation??????? wow, thats like my biggest goal, you just wait till my new lucasi hybrid gets here! Im sure my game will skyrocket! I heard your game go's up like 3 balls anyway, that means I can almost run a 9 ball rack! at this rate, and if I can keep buying the latest technology I should be in the hall of fame in less than 5 years! YIPEEEEEE!!!!!!!

OK, how good can players get? I've played Crown City Corey 10 ball on 4" pocketed tables and I would say when he's in stroke he runs out 80% or more of the time when he gets a shot on a low ball.

I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't played him a dozen or so times that way and watched him do it again and again.

Chris

Travis Trotter you got action playing that 10-ball ghost anytime you want it. haha.

Cubc I'll give you some action against the 9 ball ghost as well.

.....Bump.....

I won't gamble against anyone who listed themselves as a G3. You are all liars. :P
