Dale Patten cue value and info?

I’m told this cue was made by Dale with a Balabushka blank. It has three matching shafts and is in great overall condition. Any idea of value or history?

Thx,

Rob

Nice looking cue...but who is Dale Patten? Maybe I'm in the minority here, as I've never heard of him...which means exactly nothing! LOL :D

You might recognize his brother in law, Richie Florence.
He could play some. :D
Met Richie at Commerce Casino in 1995 during the Legends of 9-Ball.
He was walking with a cane. He was recovering from a stroke then.

We know Richie moved on. I don't know about Dale.

As far as the cue, I don't know how that could be a Bushka blank. He did not make blanks afaik.
He used other people's blanks.
That cue has pretty good value I think.
DP was a capable maker.

It’s quite possible it’s a Szamboti blank...they called each other often.
....seems to be a valuable cue.

Thanks for the heads up Joey! I knew Richie, but didn't know his brother in law! Yeah, Richie could play a LITTLE! LOL He was actually a pretty good promoter too!

Doesn’t look like a Szamboti blank. Too wide between base of points. Still one of the nicer Dale Patten cues Izvestia seen. I was at his shop in his garage in Redondo Beach a few times in early 80’s. Had him make a shaft. He was a talented man. He also restored old T-birds to make bank.

a Dale patten cue, clearly no relation to Gus or GB in this cue. three original shafts, great condition, with that case, I would ballpark the package at around $1400, IF the weight of the total cue is between 18.5 and 20 ounces, IF the shafts are 12 to13mm, IF the cue has no internal loose parts that cause significant buzz, That would be its worth to me.

I'd take the $1,000 offer, even with fancy blanks, these sit on the shelf at $1,200

This one is a nicer Patten, but the rounded windows pretty much shut it down for any collector

I'm a man of my word. Thanks for your input. I knew Dale and Richie was a close friend of mine.

I got to meet Dale through a mutual friend, Gary Allen.
Gary was a great cue builder as well, but seems only a certain demographic
of SoCal players know about them.
I was trying to apprentice and learn cue making at the time with Gary,
and it was a great experience to absorb all that info.
Anyhow, long story short-
Pretty sure you could get a grand for that without question.
Looks like a great player!

BTW, if it's a blank, it's probably a Spain, or Szam.

Collectors like sharp precise hard edges to show off the level of attention and care
used in producing a hand made piece of functional art.
The rounded edges are a tell that a CNC mill was used, and some people find that
less attractive; once a cue is in a certain tier of value.

Actually rounded edges could have been just as easily been done with a pantograph, which is a very traditional tool.

Rounded edges being only done with CNC is a misnomer. In addition, sharp points can be done with a CNC, so that is another misnomer I have seen.

Though some might not like those inlays for the rounded corners, I don't find it very detracting...maybe only slightly as I believe it would look better with sharp corners as it would match the maple ring work better.

One should note the notched diamond inlays on the cue are in fact sharp.

This cue is in nice shape, from a lesser known but good maker, and desirable to many I would think.
