Here's a remake of an old post of mine about calibrating sidespin.

Good information to have.
I was trying to show a really good ball maker , something like this and I gave him a couple of examples, of how to go 1 diamond or 2 diamonds across the table and down or up
Using a half tip and 1 tip of english, which is extremely useful in 1 pocket.
I thought he was smart enough to already know that it would take practice to achieve those results every time, and that it was just a rule of thumb to be used as a starting point.
Instead he says' Oh that won't work , look , with my stroke I go down to here, whereupon he jazzed up the cueball with a backhand stroke and went about 5 diamonds down table, when he needed to go one.
I told him he had a good stroke for 3 cushion and moved on.
