We are starting a handicapped straight pool league at California Billiards in Fremont. The handicaps are the same system as in several other rooms in the area. The fee is $10/match played, and most or all of that will come back as prizes at the end of the season (which will be about 14 weeks). Best records in the season, finish in the playoff tournament, and high runs (weighted by ability) get prizes.

There is no schedule -- show up by 7PM on Monday nights and you will have a match. If you want to play a second match and there is someone to play, you can get in two matches per night.

There is no membership fee. Free practice starts at 6:30.

Tonight is the second night of the session. Since this is a drop-in (not scheduled) league, you can still get in. Just show up by about 6:30.

Too bad this isn't happening in the Los Angeles area. I hope the league is successful, and you guys have lots of high runs!

We are in the playoffs of our second season. The total prize fund is $1900 with $230 to the person with the best record during the season and $460 to first place in the single-elimination playoffs. The room is paying back 100% of the weekly fees.

We start a new season June 20th. It is a drop-in league for individuals, so you show up when you can (Monday nights) and are matched up with whoever is there. For some more details see http://sfbilliards.com/cal_league.txt

The league has a website (originally set up for a league at Lucky Shot in Sunnyvale) that has standings and suggested handicapped matches. See http://aspastats.appspot.com/Cal/

The ratings are like FargoRate so a separation of 100 rating points means the players are about 2:1 apart in scoring and might play a 40-80 match.

Come on by on the 20th if you can.

... Come on by on the 20th if you can.

That is tonight, but if you miss tonight, just come on the first Monday you can. The new season ends on September 26th and you need to get in 10 matches by then to qualify for the playoffs.
