Still need to average two+ players a day and so far you haven't been averaging that. I would like to see the Open get 128, but @ $750 a pop I don't believe it will get the usual big finish in sign ups like other years. Johnnyt

I think historically the Open receives about half of its sign-ups the week before the event. They are pool players after all...

Johnny, I'm predicting this one will fill. The fact that it's sanctioned by the WPA and there are world ranking points, makes it a very important international event again.

It will fill up.

I used to run a trade show. We offered a significant discount for early registration (4 weeks prior to trade show opening date). It made no difference; we still had 60% of our registrations after the discount cut-off date and more than 1/2 of those in the last 10 days.

The funny thing is, these are people who came to the show every year. They'd already made their airline and hotel reservations and even reservations at their favorite restaurants...but they didn't register for the show until the last minute.

My boss insisted that I continue the early-bird discount even though I showed him he was giving away about $10,000. But he said he'd go crazy if everyone waited until the last minute.

Jeffrey Ignacio

Good news! China Open finalist and Pacquiao 10-ball doubles winner, Jeffrey Ignacio, just got approved this week for a US visa. They are already arranging his application for the US Open. I hope he makes it big in his trip to the US.

Is there an updated list of players ?

Maybe Roberta will chime in later today when she sees this thread.

I read on the website that all entry fees paid *after* October 5th will have a $50 additional fee in addition to the $750 entry fee. So, if anybody is holding out, they should get their monies in pronto. :)

Here is the info ---> HERE.

Interestingly, the players meeting is now *not* mandatory. That saves a day of expense on the lodging. That is good news for some. New players, those who have never competed in the Open, I think the players meeting would be a good idea to attend, but once you've been there, it may not be as imperative as far as attendance goes.

The history is interesting in that the last 6 years, there have been repeats. Mika wins 2 years in a row, 2008 and 2009; Darren wins 2 years in a row, 2010 and 2011; and Shane wins 2 years in a row, 2012 and 2013. Read more about it ---> HERE.

Meanwhile, look at Earl's wins: '84, '87, '93, '97, and 2000. Quite a spread there from 1984 to 2000. I hope he competes this year. He's always a fan favorite to watch.

Well, it's 2 weeks until show time, October 13 through 19th, 2014.
