Whoever is chosen for this thankless job should post under an alias. There's too many personal beefs on this forum. For a moderator to be neutral, this is a tough task for a "regular."

A moderator with no knowledge or history of the members of this forum, that would be ideal, though I'm sure this is an impossible request.

I have been an anonymous mod a few times. Added to discretion because I was aware that other people would get "credit" for anything I did, good or bad!

I would suggest dual accounts for all mod's or possibly one mod account that multiple people can log into to have mod powers. Aside from anything else, gives the mod a few seconds to think if they really want to pull the trigger when they have to go from their standard member account to the moderator account.

Sometimes a firm nudge in a thread can prevent any bannings. Mr. Wilson has been quite good at that in the past.

Almost once, but not quite. Like, how the heck does one start a scrap in the Funny/Gif Thread.
Very true. Pretty much the only "arguments" I see on there are when someone makes a post saying they don't think something is funny, OR there are too many posts that do not have pictures/link/phrases in them and are just comments toward one post. Overall though it's been mostly tame through the years.

This is actually a good point. If you decide I can help on the main forum section I would definitely want to have a new s/n and would have to remove any and all bias toward any individuals to be fair. I agree that it would be really hard to find someone to do it that hasn't heard of the site, especially since there won't be monetary compensation. I personally just appreciate the wealth of pool knowledge on here which is why I said I wouldn't mind helping or being a part of a team of helpers for the main forum area.

I think your intentions are pure and good. That said, I think the moderator should be someone who is capable of not piling on others when they are being flamed. We have all done it from time to time, shared our thoughts about topics. This is why I believe a person who does not have any history on this forum might be better suited to moderate without prejudice.

I just remember the Free Juice era. There were more people joining this forum from Texas under new identities than ever existed previously so they could vote on the public poll that was created by Hungarian, a poll which was eventually taken down, but the hurt that poll caused can never be erased or taken down. You were on your honeymoon in some exotic place at that time, and yet you still continued to post on this topic while on your honeymoon, as I recall. You must have had strong feelings, I guess, or else, like AMEX, when it comes to AzBilliards, you never leave home without it.

This is just an example of why I think someone who has no history on this forum might be better suited to be a moderator. Needless to say, I would *never* fall into that category.

On the other hand, maybe it would be helpful to have someone with knowledge of some of this forum's history. I can see how that might be beneficial to their decision-making process. I'm not sure. I'm just throwing out my 2 cents on this topic, FWIW.

I thought you were referring to The Sons of Anarchy for a second there.

I agree. Neutral is ok, but it also would help that a Mod is familiar to a great extent on the members of AZB.

They would have to put all of their prejudices, likes, dislikes, if they have any, behind them at that point.

How they handle themselves in the first few instances would be fairly telling.

And of course, no one can make everyone happy in the end either. You will always end up rubbing some the wrong way.

If I remember, we then had a Free Tate Thread.

All I knew is that I have never had a Tate before, if they were Free, I wanted one.

I absolutely agree 100 percent. From what I have ascertained about Tate on this forum and the one over on Billiards Digest many moons ago, he is a strong pool enthusiast, first and foremost, but he is also a nice guy. The quality of his posts are always topnotch and enjoyable to read. I have never read anything mean-spirited come from his fingers. He shoots from the hip and his heart.
