Lindenwood billiards advanced three men and two women through the ACUI National Qualifier, held at Cue and Cushion Billiards in St. Louis February 23.

Stephen Wyatt claimed first place at the event, topping Ben Reynolds from the University of Arkansas. Lions Dan Otto and Jaydan Hergott rounded out the top four to advance. Hergott took the long route to success. After losing his first match of the day, he won the next seven straight to finish fourth. Kory Kroeger finished fifth, but came up just short of advancing.

It was a clean sweep in the women’s division as Lady Lions Federica Bertolini and Kelly Zahn both qualified for the National Championship tournament which will be held over the summer in July.

Coach Mark Wilson noted that the team had been building towards the important moment all season.

“We only scheduled the toughest opponents to challenge us and raise our level of play,” he said. “The entire team played its best pool of the year and really came together. They displayed tenacity, sportsmanship and great cueing technique and I couldn’t be happier with their performance!”

There were a total of 23 players representing five different at the Regional event.

The next match for billiards is scheduled for March 10 as the Lions face Frayer’s Players. Competition begins at 2 p.m. at Cue and Cushion Billiards in St. Louis.
