Hello all. Looking for any feedback based on experience. Is there any concern with using the Gaboon pictured below for a one piece cue? Does the transition from heartwood to sapwood cause any stability concerns? It is almost a perfect 50/50 split and I have an idea for a cue in mind. Thank you.

Coring has been mentioned but I'm not certain why.
You haven't stated any wghts for the wood and EBO is fairly stable,
other than a possibility to check while seasoning.

My concern here would be the separation of the sap-wood from the heart-wood
at some point in the future. There's no guarantee either way.
I've seen beautiful examples where the wood has stayed intact and
I've seen not so beautiful examples where it hasn't.
In my builds, Maple is the only wood that I use that shows both heart & sap.

Some builders will core 'everything' as a matter of course.
I feel that if I have to core a particular wood for it to be usable,
I have to wonder why I'm using that wood in the first place.

You have a desire to use this particular wood containing both sap & heart.
I can't guarantee your success, nor can your chosen builder.
My purpose here is to alert you to the possibilities, not to encourage or discourage.
I don't see that coring will prevent any of the perceived downsides
but then I don't core just because I can.

DON'T DO IT.

The weight of the black section will be different than the weight of the light colored section. If you could roll it slowly, you will see what I mean, it would be the most unbalanced cue you ever held.
