Big difference, but that is where it stops because both groups of people spent it like it was never going to end and found that reality bites back hard.

Yes my custom cue also doubles as a light saber. You might say that it shoots lights out. You are now activated Agent 92395. Obtain the funds from Goldman Sachs and deposit into my Swiss account. This message will make you shit your pants in 5 seconds. Sev found it first.

I have heard a few stories over the years, but the ones here are truly great. I remember JJ telling me about The Rack and the strange pool time rates for road agents. The story goes something like this. JJ gets in and gets down in a good game. He wins 10k or so and goes to pay the time. They tell him "that'll be $600." He laughs, but they are dead serious. There is a long pause followed by "well you wanna come back tomorrow, don't ya?" He pays off the $600, chalking it up to juice for the score.

The next night, he wins between 5k and 10k side betting. Hours go by and he never hits one ball. When the wee hours arrive, he decides to get some rest. Before he got 10 feet, he was told his "pool time" was $500. He starts to argue, but thinks better of it and peels off a nickel laughing all the way to the hotel.

The Rack must be the strongest place in the world to gamble at pool, period!

The truth is that there are a very few smart gamblers and a lot of gamblers who are action junkies. Smart gamblers know that money is worth just as much regardless of where it comes from and the action junkies just use it as a way of keeping score. The track, the casinos, poker, dice, or a better pool player or one that matched up better than night eventually gets the action junkies money. The action guys are a lot better at counting the wins than the losses so you hear about all the big wins and none of the losses. They may have won $100,000 or $150,000 in a year, what you don't hear is that most of them lost about the same amount.

Are you talking about Jeremy Jones? I think he's a little too young to have been involved with the action from the Rack. That was mostly a 1970's and early 80's phenomena. By the mid 80's it was winding down.

Hu,
You've written many very good posts in your day, but this one really stands out to me. Very well said and so true.

I know guys who can't go to sleep at night if they have a $1.00 bill left in their pocket. They're ridiculous and beyond reason or helping. On the other end, you got super genius's like Billy Incardona & Jack Cooney and the late Don Willis who are masterminds and really, money assassins.

Nice post Hu.

I'm a little anal when I make a big score, which is rare anyway. But I have won amounts in the tens of thousands several times. I have three final table finishes at the World Series of Poker, each one for some serious money. I had them put the cash in a plain paper bag and I left town immediately and took the money home with me.

My experience has been that money has less value in Vegas than it does when you get back home.

Jay,
Since I'm dishing out the love today, THAT was like a 500 foot homerun!
Besides being in the upper crust of smart gamblers, that last line is great enough to be mounted on a plaque!

You boys are hitting 'em good today!

I believe Rosie had a fleet of airplanes that flew arms to Vietnam, and might have flew something back on the return trips. That is what I was told. I have been told he lost hundreds of thousands at one time.

A customer and friend of mine told me they were going to Vegas to drop ten thousand in early seventies dollars. She said she was going to space it out over two weeks and enjoy a vacation. Three or four days later she is back by my place. I mentioned that it seemed things didn't go as planned. She said, "No, I got off of the plane and got in a private poker game within an hour. A day and a half later I was eight thousand ahead so I came home!" Smart lady, and smart Jay to know that sometimes the smartest move is to get the hell away from temptation while you have your winnings.

I remember hearing a story about Cliff winning a chunk of money on a barbox tournament and needing a loan to get out of town because he lost it all back in the casino.

Darn it Jay! Must you be right all the time . After confirmation from JJ, it was the House of Champions in Detroit where he ran into the strange pool time rates. He did offer that the action was fierce and I guess I just got a few stories mixed up. Good Catch as always Mr. Helfert.

That's a nice little set up he's got going for him, he doesn't risk anything and then takes 10 percent of the winner's won money. What a piece of crap. I can understand if people knew that before hand and still chose to play but finding out after you've won and packed up to leave... that would seriously piss me off. I wouldn't go in there.

Does he take 4 dollars from someone who has won 40? lol ::::rolls eyes::::
