The old Dacron wrap needs replacing & I want to go with Irish linen. I need a professional job on it so would appreciate any recommendations on who can do a top notch job. Looking online I note Muellers has been around a long time.

I would check around your local area for a cue builder or repairman. I would avoid shipping cues for small jobs if possible. Post your general area somebody can probably point you in the right direction.

I checked locally & don't get a good impression on their ability regarding the Palmer. Of course I'd prefer not to ship it but can protect & insure it adequately.

You can't go wrong with Muellers.

It is certainly possible, but your wrap may or may not be Dacron. It could be worn pure black linen.

I attached a couple of pictures for your reference. The first is a Model J in a group with other black Palmers with different wraps to give you an idea of your options. The fourth cue from the bottom is wrapped with nylon. It's impossible to tell in the picture, but nylon has a noticeable weave. The second from the top is a Model 20 with a leather wrap and the bottom cue has a black with white specked linen wrap. The 3rd from the bottom is a Model 9 which had it's wrap removed to inspect the splice in the handle.

The second picture is another Model J with a pure black linen wrap.

The third picture gives you an idea of linen with black specks, and green specks. This is original and no longer available. Today's white/green linen wrap while attractive looks nothing like the original.

Hope this helps.

They sure look great...thanks for posting. I just took a couple of pics to show the wrap.

Although the "whites" seem out of favor, I prefer the white w/light green flecs, at least from pics I've seen.

Interesting

That's amazing. I've never seen a senior Palmer with a multi-stage wrap. I wonder if it's original?

Can you take any clearer pics? Maybe one where the different colors join? There might be a place where one thread is tucked under the adjoing color.

Wow.

Yes, I'm sure it's original. I got it from the original owner Hugh McNeal, owner of Royal 8 Billiards (Va beach, Va) in late 1974. That's where I hung in my younger days. Here's some better pics.

Maybe these 3 photos may help, one black and one white w/ green specks.

Barry, nice Palmers there, thanks for taking the time to post the pics. I wish my wrap wasn't separating so much as I'd prefer to leave it be.

I looked at the thread on Will Prout's Palmers....what a fantastic collection!

Wrap

If your preference is to save the wrap, just have the black rewrapped. I've had this done and it can done perfectly.

The red wrap (lower section) is starting to separate too. I thought that could be an option but since 2 of 3 sections need it, my thoughts were to replace it all.

Jay, you have a nice collection of Palmers.

Here is a Model F that was wrapped just a couple of months ago in your colors.

And thank you for the compliment on my cues, but I am just the current and temporary owner.

Very nice job on the wrap. Yes, we're just the current caretakers......
