Just trying to get by on the $$$$

Is it likely that if I pick up an old Valley bar box somewhere on the cheap, that I can call in a top action mechanic to replace the rails (I'm sure the old ones will be shot), refelt it, then shim tighten those pockets down to 4 1/2 inches, tear out the coin gadget, and make it so it will use a regular pool table cue ball?
The exterior finsh isn't that big of a deal to me.
I need something like that to stick in the basement for tournament practice and drills only. (seems like the big tables are a thing of the past)
Are these mechanical things doable.....without spending as much almost as a new diamond or something?
Comments and opinions welcome.
Thanks.

Find the box and some friends with strong backs to get it down the stairs. The rest is pretty easy to do.
