Long cut shots from just off the rail

Ok I seem to be about 50/50 these days on this type of shot. The kind where you have no choice but to strike the upper half of the cb b/c of close distance to the rail. This is from say the distance of the left break side break spot behind the line to an ob close to the rail just after the middle pocket going up table. How can I be more consistent in making these? All perspectives are welcome thx

A few fundamentals/pointers, if I understand the shot you described correctly.

1. Have a stance on the rail shot as if there is no difference between regular and rail interference stance.

2. Press down HARD with the bridge hand along the rail. It is your "stable mechanical bridge now".

3. Take a shorter backstroke, say, to the edge of the cloth, depending on stance and bridge length between hand and ball.

4. Strive for a center axis hit above center, level cue, before adding spin and variables to these cut shots.

Shorter bridge length, shorter stroke, shorter follow-through. Don't try to do too much. You're limited by the rail, so accept a simpler shot.
