*UPDATE* 9 AND 10 BALL ARE BACK IN!!!

Breaking News, the Wisconsin State Pool Players Tournament has become a one trick pony. Yesterday it was discovered on the entry forms for the WSPA State Championship players only had the options to 8-Ball Singles, Scotch Doubles, and Team events this coming year. Questions are racing as players are trying to come to grips with what has happened to “their” tournament. Current reining Men’s 10-Ball State Champ Jon Kramer said “I’m extremely disappointed. No chance to defend the 10-ball (title).” And he is not the only one, there is currently a fire storm on social media asking how did this happen in the first place.
This yours tournament is a little different from the norm. This year there will only be one tournament besides the usually two (one for singles the other for team). With this came a sacrifice, either the 9 and 10 Ball or the Scotch Doubles had to go with time and money limitations. In a surprise move the Association board chooses to dump the singles events. “Well once we split the tournaments we added scotch doubles to the formats. This year for the combined events we had to do one or the other. Scotch has been so successful the last two years, so it’s what we’re running. This way we have three different formats: doubles, singles, and team. Rather than two singles events and a team event.” said Jeff Martin Vice President of the Wisconsin Pool Players Association.
This change has caught many off guard and scratching their heads on when and who decided this. The rumor is it was discussed and voted on at the meetings but we have been unable to security any meeting minutes to back this up. With some much debate going on it has been difficult to find the proof behind who made observations that Scotch Doubles would be more successful than then these long standing traditional games. Hopefully the players, who do support this Association by monitory means, will be able to decide the fate of “their” tournament.

* update * 9 and 10 return!!!

Only after a few days with many players’ sharing their opinions on this matter, the WSPA has decided to add the 9 and 10 Ball events back into to this year’s WSPA State Tournament January 17-21, 2018. It was tough decision for the board to make with this year’s championship being held only one weekend compared to the two separate weekends for singles and team events in past years. But the news was met with praise on all the social media sites and a big congratulations goes out to all the players and supporters who urged on this change. And another congratulations goes to the board who truly are in touch with their members and made this change in only a few days as to not cause hesitation in plans for attending.
