Sound made by Schmelke cue

Just came upon a situation today I've never encountered before. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I installed a Kamui medium tip on a Schmelke shaft, I trim the ferrule flush with the tenon. Used epoxy to attach the ferrule after threading the tenon. Tip and ferrule were both flush. I then tap the tip (gently) on a hard surface to get a feel for how the tip will hit. It made a sound like glass breaking! Is it 1) the Kamui was as hard as a rock, 2) the Schmelke shaft is not made of wood, or the ferrule (a Meucci replacement ferrule) was really something much harder than I thought I bought? Or a combination of all three? Never had this happen before. Even Triangle tips make a dull thud with similar ferrule and shaft combinations. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like G10 or some really hard LBM to me...
Figuring out what material the shaft is should be fairly simple.
