Sponsor For US Mosconi Cup Team

I know Mark Wilson has been working hard to try to get a sponsor for the US Mosconi Cup team. He tried several beer companies but was told that with the majority of the viewership of event being Europe and Asia, the US beer companies had no real market place there and need for advertising.

So why has no one else stepped up? 20 hours of TV in Europe and Asia. Streamed to the US. Each player can wear up to 3 patches during their matches. I'm sure if there was a title sponsor for the US team, Mark would make sure over and over it was known.

Anyone in the pool industry interested? Anyone that owns a company or high up in a company with connections interested? Millions would be great but that is not needed to be a sponsor. :). You might be surprised what a sponsorship of this event could be had for. Seems like the Mosconi is bigger than ever and getting more attention than ever. Buehler? Buehler?

Get ahold of Mark Wilson if interested. If you don't know how to reach him, message me here and I'll put you in touch with him.

How much does something like sponsorship cost, just out of curiosity? Are there different levels?

It needs to be a global company that wants to attract low-life, degenerate pool players as customers. :D

It would be hard for any of the well-known industry/vendor companies (Simonis, XYZ CueMaker, etc.) because they can't seem to favor the Americans over the Europeans. Ditto for any global company: why position the company as favoring Americans when the potential customers are mostly European and Asian?

It also can't be a competitor to any of MatchRoom's event sponsors (which probably rules out any online betting companies).

It's a tough one. For a big company there just isn't enough viewership to justify the time it takes to analyze the market.

And Mark will never let anyone know but I will. He has spent countless hours on this years Mosconi Cup. I can bet more than anyone has in the past as captain. Beyond that, he has also spent his own money to support this years team and make things happen. He certainly was not required to do that. His work with the Mosconi Cup and Lindenwood is all to foster the growth of pool. And he has the players he is in contact with believing it. They are starting to see the bigger picture and not just living for 5 minutes ahead and some $300 score in their life. SVB got some flack for not being involved in some of the team activities up to this point. I can let you know that SVB is skipping the Japan Open, a points event that possibly could cost him the #1 ranking, so he can be with the US team from Nov 21st til they leave for England.

Change is coming. Mark is making it happen. In the mindset, in the public appearance and image of pool, and the money will come from it eventually. Surely there is a sponsor out there that wants to be apart of it.

In the UK and Asia the Mosconi Cup is broadcast to millions. Sky Sports is like ESPN here.

And many of the degenerate players I know happen to be professionals in their fields with great jobs, some of them millionaires.

I have no idea what Mark has really done to recruit big time sponsors. I would guess it would need to be outside industry sponsors so as not to compete with whatever individual sponsors the players already have.

I would say a car brand is an obvious choice.

Bdorman - sponsorship is not about favoring. Not sure where you got your marketing degree. Does Budweiser only want people in St Louis drinking their beer cause they have a billboard on the outfield wall of the baseball stadium in that town? Does it look like they are favoring the Cardinals and in fear that a Yankee fan won't drink Bud Light?

Sponsorship is all about getting your brand out to the masses. If Mercedes sponsored the US team, do they think that no European will ever buy their car again? Better tell them this news fast and pull their sponsorship of Adam Scott.

Well it would be great if Mark Wilson participated here.

Let's start with: How many hours of live programming will there be and how many hours of repeat programming?

Let's see if AZB has any people connection power.

Who do we know? John Mars - reportedly connected to the Mars candy company. M&Ms are sold all over the world.

Who else?

Will Prout? Any connections to the telcos?

Brands that make sense.

Microsoft
Apple
Major car brands
Candy
Coke
Gatorade
Ebay
Alibaba
Nike
etc...all worldwide brands.

I disagree. For just a few thousand dollars -- a global company could have their logo plastered across millions of tv screens, laptops, and smart phones. Mainly in Europe, but these matches will live forever on Youtube and other places.

Sounds like a really cheap way to advertise to me. But of course I'm not in advertising.

JB - I don't have the specifics beyond what I stated. And don't want to again get into the true dollars it would take. But it would take a simple email or phone call to Mark if anyone is interested or has connections.

And I didn't post this to debate if sponsorship is good or bad. That is for a company to decide. Not EVERYTHING on AZ Billiards has to be a debate.

Also, Mark does read AZ when he has time but I can probably think of 10,000 reasons why he is hesitant in posting here.

Brands don't have to make sense either. Ever watch NASCAR. Does UPS think that advertising on a car is because the guy sitting in the bleaches is their prime customer. It is all about getting your brand name out in public as much as possible. I have a friend that runs a handball tour. They now stream the matches thru ESPN. Guess who his title sponsor is? Simple Green. Has nothing to do with handball or the people that are the participants in the sport.

How about the US Mosconi Cup Team sponsored by JB Cases. Make some nice red white and blue individual cases for the guys and a financial impact as well. :)

I am not debating. Trying to help. But brands do have to have a connection to the market they will seen in. UPS is global so they would be a good fit. AT&T is not a global brand so it would be wasted on European and Asian viewers.

THe National Football League? Why not?

Maybe he should hit up the NFL. With American Football trying to grow their product in Europe and world wide it certainly wouldn't hurt to have the NFL shield on the arm of every American player, and it would be one athlete supporting another athlete. Maybe it's something the NFL could even get behind.

Bdorman - sponsorship is not about favoring. Not sure where you got your marketing degree. University of Missouri. Been in marketing and advertising for 40 years. I spent tens of millions of dollars of client's money on advertising and sponsorships. Does Budweiser only want people in St Louis drinking their beer cause they have a billboard on the outfield wall of the baseball stadium in that town? Does it look like they are favoring the Cardinals and in fear that a Yankee fan won't drink Bud Light?

If that's the case (and it usually is) you sponsor the event, not just one of the two teams in the event. The Mosconi Cup is the Americans vs. the Europeans -- that's its entire gimmick. Everyone knows it, everyone feels it and every advertiser takes it into account. It's far better to sponsor the event than be identified with one of two teams.

In the case of the Mosconi Cup it's a moot point; the event is so small that it makes no sense for a large company to sponsor it. The analysis, paperwork and approval process in a large company would cost more than the sponsorship. (Like an un-named steel company who spent $110,000 to produce a TV ad...and then only spent $12,000 running the ad!). And find me a mid-level executive who wants to put his name on a proposal for Mosconi Cup individual team sponsorship rather than an golf sponsorship.

I think an American coffee company sponsor would be cool. You see coffee pots in almost every pool room in america. And then the Euros could get a tea sponsor :)

AGAIN - I didn't post this thread to debate anything or hear your expert opinion on what is or is not beneficial. If I did, I would have posted something to that effect. If you understand so much, why are you failing to comprehend that?

If anyone has a direct connection or desire to sponsor the US Mosconi Cup, please reach out to Mark. The companies etc given are all good ideas but these companies get 100s of requests so unless there is a direct contact, at this stage it most likely won't amount to anything.
