Where does added money come from in a tournament? For example, I was watching one of my Accu-Stats videos of the 2001 Masters last night and either Grady or Buddy said next year Barry was going to try and add $50,000.

Where does added money come from?

Well, where does the added money come from then?

Promoters own pocket?
Sponsors?
Donations?
Advertisers?

Don't forget the ones that take a " green fee " and put that back in as " added money " lol.

The green fee is supposed to compensate the pool hall owner for the use of the tables A local pool hall owner told me $1k added money was out of his own pocket and because he didn't charge a green fee, he lost all income that weekend from the tables. His only source of revenue was from food. It didn't help some players brought their own, or dined outside instead. After that, he didn't host another tournament stop again.

Dr. Cue, an well known, multi-hundredaire cue fixer-upper walks into the
Table Roll and Eats Club, place is packed for the 4Ball playoff, Dr. Cue having not
made the cut go's looking and find's the TD and says, "here", gives the TD his $100 cue
to be awarded to the winner. TD makes announcement of $1000 added for first place.
A good time had by all.

Conway, Arkansas?

I knew the former Sheriff of Faulkner County (Conway), just north of Little Rock. He was a WWII army buddy of my dear old dad. I stayed overnight out there more than once years ago.

I have a friend in Conway myself I have not seen in a few years.

Also met a girl from there playing pool in a bar here in Memphis....too bad she swung the other way. :frown:

Depends on the tournament.

Local tournaments will add $X and try to recoup that money from the food/bar.

Basically the same theory across the board. Your example of the US Open, they try to recoup with food, drinks, PPV stream, people paying to watch in person and the vendor booths on site. Sometimes the tournament held in a casino or hotel, they'll give the promoter a nice chunk of money from for brining so many people in.

Sometimes it can be tricky though. A promoter will sometimes charge fees then add that money back to the prize fund and act like they did something good.

Ha ha, isn't that the tournament where Barry (and/or his son) stiffed a bunch of players, including Harriman?

If so, well, there is your answer. It wasn't added :grin-square::grin-square::grin-square:

The Sheriff I was referring to, his name was Joe Martin. I believe this was back in the 60s and 70s. He was on the ABC show 20/20 for a few seconds one night.
