Cutting bits

I have a Hightower lathe and I’m interested in the best cutting bits for general repair (tips, ferrules, etc.). I’ve tried HSS but I’m no good at sharpening them. The carbide doesn’t seem to cut as cleanly but I may be using the wrong type or the wrong supplier. I’m currently fooling with indexable bits.

I’ve especially had issues getting a clean cut on ferrules. Maybe my speed is a little high.

Any help is appreciated...
