No more????

According to a few of the AZ posters, Efren is done with professional pool, as far as competing in big tournaments goes. He is retired to Pinoy Land, I wish him well.

Sadly enough, this seems to be true. He announced it during his German Farewell Tour. He mentioned he might still play in Japan and Asia but no more in Europe or the US. Well, I guess he deserves rest at his age but I regret probably not seeing very much of him in the future any more. He was my favorite player - not only because of his skills but because of his fine character as well. I will miss him a lot.

BTW, the Farewell Tour is over since Jan 18.

He needs to retire. He's lost 3 or 4 gears and has been getting weight from relative unknowns in money games in the PI for sometime now.

There is something to be said for exiting gracefully.

Thankful to have been able to watch hundreds of hours of him playing throughout his career. Hope he enjoys his retirement ....

This is so easy to say when you're not talking about yourself

Quitting doing something you love for the sake of your legacy is one of the dumbest things in all of sports. Who cares if your skills diminish? If you still love doing something -- continue doing it.

Mind you, it's not as if his level has dropped to an embarrassing level. He still took down SVB, Thorpe and some other names in last year's Derby.
His potting is worse, yes, as is his consistency, but he can still throw it down with the best of 'em.

The physical toll of being away from home along with expenses paid by backers who don't stand to make as much as before and are also away from home in the United States.

I believe the article I saw stated he will still play but in fewer events.

It's true he gets weight in the PI but I'm pretty sure he gets money just for showing up and when I watch those "street" games I notice he is never playing his best game one pocket. Even at his current age over 60 the young straight shooters don't want any part of his one pocket game.

Crazy is that he can still probably play even with any American not name Shane.

6th at DCC 9b last yr with a win over SVB.
8th in 1p.

And he's been winning most of those games.

I don't think he's winning "most" of them. But hey, getting weight is something to take solace in.

One of his handlers "Bong" set up a match in Subic a couple years ago and there was some discussion about how much weight Efren should get? That kinda says it all doesn't it?

Manny Pacquiao doesn't know when to retire either. It must be a Pinoy thing? Philippine time drags on.

Efren has won more tournaments than Earl the last few years. Efren has certainly won a lot more money games.
Efren is loving those spots and local action.
Quit that and do what?
It's not like you get dementia from pool.
I know he won P700k two months ago in the south. All expense paid and even had a P30k appearance fee.

Efren was invited to play a Ten-Ball match against the house pro of
Golden Break to mark the pool hall's grande opening two days ago.

It was a Race to 24, with the house pro, Dean Mark Castronuevo giving
Efren a +2.

These were some of the pics from that event, friends.
And a brief post that I did on the event, which I posted on my FB site.

.

It was one exciting hill-hill match between Dean Mark Castronuevo
and the Greatest of All Time - Efren Bata Reyes - last night to mark
the grand opening of the Golden Break Hookah Bar and Billiards! 🏆

Castronuevo played superbly well and stood toe to toe with the Hall of Famer
in the Race to 24, 10-ball match (Efren with +2 wins)!
The Filipino pool player really plays good. He managed to make
an early 6-1 run against The Magician until Efren did his magic on the 7-ball,
which drew ooohs and aaahs from the crowd!

And that magical shot on the 7-ball started it all for Efren, who,
rack by rack, narrowed the gap and tied the score halfway through the match!

Even Efren's last shot in the deciding rack was one for the books - a very thin cut
on the 10-Ball with the cue ball touching the end rail (almost a diamond apart).
He hit the cue ball hard to avoid a scratch in the side pocket - the white traveled four rails! Wow!

.
The place was jam packed! To say that the action was intense would be an understatement! And I kid you not!

No Efren at the derby is a lot like going to a Laker's game and there is no Lonzo or LaVar.

Its in the Philippines, my friend.

Golden Break Hookah Bar and Billiards
is located at 262 Alabang–Zapote Road,
Talon Uno, Las Pinas City.

It's behind the Lido Chinese Restaurant,
which is very near the Las Piñas City Hall.
