My first time to the derby. Coming up in the morning. Anyone have any advice on what to do first? I really don't even know what goes on.

Don't forget to stop in at the Rustic Frog on the drive in.
I am the same boat. I am coming from western Ky Friday and I have never been before. A friend told me that they have all kinds of booths with everything imaginable to do with pool. I am looking forward to watching the 9 ball tournaments and seeing what goes on in the action room. I hope I can stay up all night, I am going to have a skin cancer surgery Sat morning at a Louisville Hospital. May get a motel room if I can find a decent cheap room.
And where might that be?

Here is what not to do, do NOT go to the buffet...PERIOD. Legends and the Chinese place are way better and cheaper. The buffet is $23 and for a saw buck more you can go to Binions, actually you can eat at Binions for less depending on what you get. Paula Deans was so so at best but it was way better than this joint.
I also hope you have a room reserved and that it is actually "really reserved". My buddy is a Diamond member and reserved a double room over a month ago and when he got there Friday they said nope we're all out you can have a single. They were also charging $370 a night, wtf is that about. They eventually found a double on a smoking floor and I think they were actually piping smoke in through the air vent. After 4 days everything I had smelled like smoke just from setting in the room, ill be back in a couple days and thank god they switched rooms again after the first wave of people left. On a side note, the staff was pleasant. I didnt step foot in the casino one time and after hearing from several Diamond members that "this is the worst casino for gambling they have ever been in" explains why. All that BS about how they aint worried about the drop and they are trying to get more people in there is just that. At $370 a night they aint gonna get that many.
Other than that you will probably have a good time. Stop by SUREMANS booth and buy a cue.....tell him I sent ya' and he may treat you right
