Spyder Laser Aiming Device

I remember seeing lots of adds for this on US open videos some years ago, and then not much after that.

I haven't bought this, but I have had other types of set-up-and shoot devices. My advice would be not to bother. It takes time to set up, and eventually you'll get fed up. I used mine to test various theories I had about throw etc, but fortunately the ones I bought were very cheap.

I also highly doubt the educational values of doing this stuff to get better at aiming. You are basically teaching yourself to pick up cues that will not be available during a match. If you have problems with certain shots, set them up and shoot them with a camera rolling. Learn how you miss (on what side) and try to understand why.

If you really want this, then nobody can stop you from buying it, but I bet that thing will be taken to the pool hall 2-3 times and then be left in a drawer or on a shelf to rot.
Hey, thanks .... the search continues.

Great advice. And I agree....it'll make a nice dust collector.

(This post has been heavily edited to be in compliance with new rules. All aiming systems are wonderful and all gadgets also. You should buy anything you can, as many times over as you can afford. I will not discuss any aiming systems or their merits, instead I will direct you towards a position "system" if you will.)
Take a look at this material by Ralph Eckert, if you want to learn where the cueball is going. One of the best instructors out there, totally free material. He has books as well. Recommend all of his stuff. Learning tangent lines is well and good, but IMO it's more important to learn exactly where the cueball goes when you roll it. It's more difficult and complicated, thus more time should be spent on that.

If you like 14.1 and speak German this video is for you. I have translated it to English on the 14.1 forum, but sadly I can't find the thread now, and I'm not going to retranslate it unless I know you're interested. Neither English or German is my native language so it's a little bit of an effort that goes into it even if Mr. Eckerts German and diction are very easy to understand. I'd much prefer if someone could find the link. This video will tell you where the ball is going on a side of the rack break shot.

I won't be responding to any posts on this forum, now that it has been officially killed off. I'll be in the 14.1 forum from now on.
