I switched to that type of motor several months ago as the standard Deluxe motor. I do not remove the clutch. Keeping the clutch and adding a screw adjustment gives you even a better micro speed adjustment. It can also work as an instant brake in emergency situations. It does keep the speed control knob on the back side, but I think the benefit of keeping the clutch out way that negative. Replacing the reversing switch has the advantage of an easy to flip reversing switch, but changing it does make it a lot more likely to flip it in reverse when the lathe is running and burning up the motor or controller. The biggest advantage of that motor is it actually has the power to do coring and such and still have variable speed. It can also be slowed down enough to brush on slow drying finishes.
