TURNING STONE CLASSIC XXIV

Finally arrived-sitting comfortably in my happy place watching world class pool.
Why not a thread where those of us AZers who are here can post up some photos.

On Saturday, I'm going to grab the wife's camera and jump around this place like some second rate Diana Hoppe and take some photos. Until then, I'm stuck with my phones camera.

Let's have fun, turning stone classic is here.

While waiting to watch Dennis hatch and Johnny archer on table 6 and 7, a quick stop to see Dan Dishaw and get a brand new Ki Tech medium installed.

Life is good.

Thorsten racks, Justin B warming up. This is my first time seeing Justin Bergman play in person. He has a very Philippino stroke style (only three fingers on the cue grip hand used, very fluid practice strokes a la Bustamante). His pacing around the table and demeanor is strong. Already up 5-0 fifteen minutes into the match.

Two father and son teams are playing in this tournament. Oscar and Ernesto watching Thorstens match. The other father/son duo is Mario and John Morra from Canada.

Highlight of the evening is Salvas vs Dechaine.
Luc up 8 - 6

Lots of drama now, Dechaine in the rack debate now.
Anyone else watching on the streaming table?

Machine gun lives up to his reputation.
Hill hill vs dechaine.
Luc wins 9-8

Look out one loss side, Appleton and dechaine in there early.

Watching the stream, I don't get a feel for the entire place. Thanks for posting these pics. I'm amazed that the spectator seating looks to be so comfortable...

Yeah there is plenty of elbow room. Would have thought Turning Stone to have larger crowd. Maybe because a weekday. Hopefully weekend will have better spectator turn out.

I agree. Looks like maybe 50 spectators. Less than a hundred for sure.

Thanks for the pics Cardigan Kid! Keep 'me coming.

On a past turning stone classic, Mike Zuglan said the number would be surprisingly high if everyone who attended the tournament for that day was in at the same time. But many spectators pop in and watch a bit, then leave and go to the casino, then come back. There's restaurants and shops, aside from the concession stand that keep people moving in and out all day. The arena seats 5,000'(i think), and I did a head count on a random Saturday afternoon round and it was over 500 but everyone was so spread out it looked like a hundred or so.

You are correct that Saturday is really the biggest day in the audience attendance and the high level of competition draws in railbirds from all over.

I'll do a head count when Dennis Hatch plays Shane this afternoon and report back.

You got it! Today I'm taking the wife's camera and will bounce around the place and snap some up. I'll have a laptop so I'll be able to post them up right from there.

Pwd72s, I'll try to show you the scale of the place, but it's so massive, the camera/stream doesn't do it justice. Thanks for viewing.
