Can you post a link to that? I don't see it.

Matchroom set the criteria for the three places which were bequeathed to the EBF earlier in the year. But unfortunately for Nick VDB despite having a great year, he did not perform well enough within these parameters to get one of the spots.
Also, the Wildcard spots are specifically designed to let Marquee Players compete and nobody knows better than Matchroom what excites the crowds and great a player as Nick is he loses out in the Charisma Department to Darren and Karl. They will pick up a lot of local publicity.
Matchroom don't just make things up as the go along. Everything is for a reason.
Likewise, their long term plan for Team USA is starting to bear fruit and again their decision to go with Mark Wilson sits very well at Matchroom's HQ

payback's a biotch when you piss off Mark Griffin..

No sure what CSi has to do with Matchroom, whose events make CSI's look like small potatoes.

Disappointed with Thorsten being neglected as well, but Boyes is a strong pick, especially playing scotch doubles with Daz. Don't really understand the hate.

Surprised a bit on Ralph...didn't he play strong...want to say like 5-1 or 6-1 in the last two times he played 2011 and 2013 combined (including both singles and doubles)?

Souquet lost to Dechaine 1-6 in singles in 2011. He was on the winning side of the other 8 matches he played in: 4-1 in 2011 and 4-0 in 2013.

Maybe so, but i dont see that as a team. Add a new coach, and it's possible the wheels will come off.

Did they get rid of Johann? He is a great coach, winning almost every time out. I think his teams have won five of the last six.

Yup, Thorsten would have been very deserving, but Karl played some fantastic pool in last year's Mosconi, won at the World Cup of Pool and had a top 10 in the just-completed US Open. Tough pick to argue with.

Johan is the non-playing captain again this year, Jay.

His record is 5 wins and 1 tie, so he is undefeated. His first year was 2006, when the teams tied 12-12. He captained the winning side in 2007 and 2010 through 2013. [Alex Lely was captain in 2008 and 2009.]

I meant a link to the statement, didn't find it anywhere, anyway.

Perhaps someone whispered in his ear that he should delete his statement. Pool world is small, a player can't afford to slam the door on the way out.

I am somewhat surprised that three of the five are UK guys. Leaving Hohmann out is just wrong

More like crotch-grabbing Boxing Brits.

I agree about Thorsten, though. He has not completed in many, if any, Euro events, which is probably why he has been eliminated from the selection criteria. Things aren't so bad for Mr. Hohmann, though, after pocketing $25,000 in California earlier this month at the Challenge of Champions. ;)

Life is good for the German living in America. Hey, maybe Team USA could use a pinch shooter with Thorsten. :grin-square:

Maybe the rules should be changed to allow players to play on the Countries team where they live? Darren, Thorsten, Mika........

Thanks, that's what I thought. So recently (as in the last few years), he has played really well it sounds like but got the snub this year. That's too bad.

Without Hohmann, Souquet or Van Den Berg, the US has a better chance.

If I were captain of a world team, my first choice would be Toasty. Arguably the best player, and definitely one of the most mature and level-headed.

Not sure how Van Den Berg gets left out of the team again, he is number one on the ranking list on the Eurotour.
But I think you could pick another 5 Euros for a Mosconi cup B team and they would be favorite over this years USA team.

Good I'm glad to see this, that way if the US five do the almost impossible task of winning against the invincible Euro five there will be no complaints that the vast underdog, overwhelmed American team didn't beat the Euros best.

he should have been a given for this year's Mosconi. i'm guessing that Barry heard about his "ordeal" in Vegas.

Considering the "ordeal," as you call it, was over a plane ticket and conflict of interests involving two events, one of which was a match room event, I doubt it. I think you're making something out of nothing.

This was an ordeal because Ralf kept the conflict of interest to himself, rather than advising Mark Griffin of it, with the result being that America's best event organizer was backed into a corner with no easy course of action. Ralf showed disrespect to an event producer by the way he handled this, and, though it's unlikely, it's not impossible that Matchroom noticed and was unimpressed.

I agree that, while possibly, highly unlikely. Seems more like a "Pinky wants attention/to sound relevant" post.
